Lo! He Comes with Clouds Descending

Posted in Homelife

Lo! He comes with clouds descending,
Once for ev'ry sinner slain;
Thousand thousand saints attending
Swell the triumph of His train:
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!
Christ the Lord returns to Reign.

Eve'ry eye shall now behold Him
Robed in glorious majesty;
Those who set at naught and sold Him,
Pierced and nailed Him to the tree,
Deeply wailing, deeply wailing, deeply wailing,
Shall their true Messiah see.

Those dear tokens of His passion
Still His dazzling body bears,
Cause of endless exultation
To His ransomed worshipers.
With what rapture, with what rapture, with what rapture
Gaze we on those glorious scars!

Yea, amen, let all adore Thee,
High on thine eternal throne;
Savior, take the pow'r and glory,
Claim the kingdom as Thine own.
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!
Thou shalt reign, and Thou alone!

Lovely Advent hymn!!!  I'm enjoying singing these for a week or so more! :)

It's official. I LOVE my new MacBook Pro - for ever I've had such a hard time getting pictures on this blog that I was going to give up - and just in case anyone has actually been paying attention - more or less did. Now I can load them SO easily... it's Back To Picture time! :)  Woo Hoo! ;)

Making the Sign of the Cross

Posted in Religion

Just listened to this podcast at Issues Etc. It's very informative and explains much of tradition and the difference between "making an idol" and activities that point to the cross. I used to be able to embed the podcast here... It doesn't seem to want to do that here.  I'm researching it. For now the link should work or you can go to www.issuesetc.org and go to listen, archives, and scroll back to 1 December 2009. It's the segment with Pr Peterson of Redeemer Ft Wayne.  It's worth the effort to listen. Very interesting!

Another Great Blog Post!

Posted in Religion

This was the Issues Etc Blog Pick of the week by Jeff.  I Love it!
Last Sunday was All Saints Day and our pastor, in preaching about saints (specifically those dead in Christ), mentioned miscarriages.  This blog post talks about parents losing Children and, like our service on Sunday, brings it back to God's son that died for us! Brilliant - and needed!

There are things in life that are natural: peanut butter and jelly; pizza and beer; salsa and chips.  Another thing that is natural in a world sense is this: a child buries a parent.  That is the natural order of things, or that is how it should be.  What is not natural is this: a  parent should NEVER bury a child!  Unfortunately, that has just recently taken place in my congregation.  This last Sunday, a 22-year old member of my congregation passed away (on All Saints’ Day).  The family was naturally distraught.  So why is it that a parent is now burying their child?

The blog is here
Here's the link to The Sermon Archives as well - Sunday's sermon isn't up yet, but it will be.

On Prayer - a REALLY great post!

Posted in Religion

Just got a link to this post by Pastor Peters.  WOW!
Here's a snippet from his post:
The purpose of prayer is not to achieve the desired outcome (healing, lengthening of life, material goods and resources, certain feelings, etc.). The purpose of prayer is for me to trust in the goodness of the Lord which never fails and which can never fail me. It is my confidence in this goodness that is the object of my prayer.

I am not out to wine and dine God into giving me something He could but should not. I have learned to call Him "Father" because He has invited me to call Him "Father" and to know Him as "Father" and to trust in His fatherly divine goodness for all my needs -- earthly and spiritual.

And here's the link to his blog Pastoral Meanderings WOW! This is good stuff!
