By request, our coop

I was getting ready to go take pix of the coop, and I saw that a neighbor's dogs were here on our property again. (two blue healers) I could hear the chickens going crazy from here.  Guess they tried to get in the back window of the coop, but couldn't.  Wish people would be more responsible for thier dogs.

BTW, yes, we're rednecks, so there's a ton of old cars and car parts in the background. (insert eye roll here)  We also make use of anything we can find to build stuff.  So for example, that's a part of an old bunk bed holding the chicken run fence up.

Our coop and DD waiting for me to take the pic so she can open the door.  Our rooster cage is on the right. It can hold 8 roos, but right now we have the sections open so each of the 4 roos get 2 cage areas to be in. It's about 10 ft long.

You have to stand well out of the way when you open the door, because they all come flying out (on your head if you don't move) to play.

Inside left, pullet in nesting box.  Guess they tore the insulation padding down again. sigh

Inside right, more nesting boxes.  We have to replace the nesting material almost daily.  They seem to like to all lay in only one or two boxes anyway. One will stand on the boards in front and wait till another is done in the box. That's a couple of Rubbermaid containers stacked up that we use to store the food.

LOL Love your "red neck" coop. I have mine made out of an old shed and found a shelf to use as nest boxes. You use what you have and thats great. There is no shame in being thrifty. I pretty sure it doesnt matter on bit to the chickens. LOL
Have a great day.

WOW! I LOVE your long row of nesting boxes ~ I'll have to get my son to take a look - right now we only have 5 - two stacked on top of 3. But is it not hilarious how "picky" the hens can be about which box they want to lay in? They will peck each other out of the box and sometimes we've even seen them nearly sitting on top of another to *get her spot* to lay.

Thanks so much for posting more pictures!! Love Them!
Blessings,
Harriette

I love your farm! My first coop with the babies (mid july chicks) are in an old wooden playhouse that my dad built for me 22 years ago. My parents live nextdoor and he drug it across the field with a tractor!

Love your coop. Mine is just a 3 sided shed that was here when we moved here. It was in the back part of our pasture and when we got the chickens we just fenced in a large area around the shed and added roosts and nests inside. I don't close them in at night because they are fenced in.
I hatched out 10 eggs in the incubator this spring and I need to build a coop and fence in an area for those because the other pen is not big enough for that many birds. Right now they are freerange(which I love) and they help keep the manure in the pasture spread!LOL
