Beccah's Bat Mitzvah

My daughter Rebeccah was Bat Mitzvah today.  We had her Bat Mitzvah at the minion service this morning.

In case you didn't know, a Bat Mitzvah is a coming-of-age ceremony for Jewish girls.

The service was nice.  Beccah did very well.  She was so quiet you could barely hear her prayers.  She is very shy.

After the service we served food to our guests and the other congregants.  We served fruit, mini cheesecake, mini waffles and mini pancakes with assorted syrups.  Since the service was so early in the morning we thought we should serve some breakfast type foods along with the cheesecake.  Everyone loved the mini foods.

I'd like to share a few pictures from this morning.

This is Rebeccah

congratulations to her and to you. A bat Mitsvah is when she is 12, correct?

Thank you :)

A Bat Mitzvah takes place when a girl is 12 or 13. Rebeccah is 13.

Why did I think Beccah was OLDER than Miriam? and question why do you and the other girls wear a head covering but Miriam doesnt? Just curious.

Miriam is wearing a headcovering, she's just wearing it farther back on her head. It may have just fallen back some.

Ok cool. I gotcha! Another Question. How do they stay in place? Bobbypins?

Yep, those are held on with bobby pins. The headcoverings (kippot) they are wearing are like crocheted doilies, my mother made them. There are many other kinds of headcoveriengs we can wear, those are just the most common for women. I make these wire kippot and they are held on with a little comb. The one I'm wearing in the picture, a tichel, is tied on in different ways. I have to use a few clips to keep it from sliding back sometimes.
