Almost Heaven happenings........

• 21 August 2006 - I saw the look...........

After dinner was over and the the big kids cleared the dishes, my husband ask me to walk out in the field with him.  It is time to cut hay for the second time this year, so I wouldn't dare walk out there in my flips.  I grabbed my prize possession, my pink striped muck boots as DJ loaded the baby into the backpack and "put him on".  As we headed out, I noticed DJ looking at me with "the look" and a big smile.  Now you girls all know what I am talking about, the look of admiration and love that we get from our husbands when they think we are so cute at times that no one else would!  Maybe it is the feeling of comfort that comes from being married and really knowing one another.

When I saw that look, I just laughed as I realized how much I have changed in the last few years.  Knowing what he was thinking, I ask him if he remembered how I looked when he met me?  A REAL hairstyle (not the pony tail that I now sport 6 days a week), long, acrylic, french tipped nails, large hoop earings, bracelets, designer jeans, matching shoes and purse.  LOL!  What a world away from the denim capri's, pink tank top with a denim shirt over it and of course my beloved pink boots!  My nails are not only short and unpainted, but the only jewerly that I was wearing was my wedding band.

"Do you miss the old me"?  I ask him.

"Nope", he replied.  "I like you as my hick chick".

LOL!  Now that is one that I haven't heard before!  Nevertheless, I am proud to be yuppy turned hick chick!

Have I mentioned that I am looking for a staw hat to wear with my pink boots???

I know the look you are talking about and it makes you feel great doesn't it? Say, we just read a chapter in Little House in the Big Woods that talks about how ma made all of their hats out of braided straw. Maybe you could up your hick chick ante and MAKE one to match the boots!
