It has been rather busy around our place during the last couple of weeks. It has been difficult finding the time to share about our days! The chickens are STILL not butchered! It is on my to-do-list as a top priority, but I continue to put it off since I am dreading it so much!!
Over the weekend, DJ worked hard and got our door way cut out. It is now framed and ready for the french door to be installed. The flooring is all installed and looks beautiful! We actually moved a few toys into our school room just to enjoy our new space. The little ones love it just as much as we do.
Brandon and Emily report having a wonderful time in Kansas! We all miss them and look forward to their return. Unfortunately, that means that it will also be time for Brittany to return to Texas! Brittany is doing well and is a huge help around here with the animals and the daycare little ones! Hunter is always making us laugh. Just last night we were reading a book that discusses the "rules for life". Rule #2 is to always make eye contact with the person who is speaking. Then if a third party speaks, you should turn toward that person and maintain eye contact. I used an example for Hunter that if his dad and I were having a discussion with him, he should look at the person who is speaking. So he innocently asked. "Well, what do I do when you both talk at the same time? Do you want one eye to go this way and one to go that way like a drunk person?" YIKES! Where did that come from??? And how does HE know what a drunk person looks like??? He always keeps us on our toes!!
Little Jarrett has a headfull of curls and amazes us everyday with his increasing vocabulary! He is 14 months old and says: mom, daddy, no-no, duck, quack, cookie, bye-bye and thank you. NO-NO seems to be his favorite word. Perhaps that is because he hears it the most! I am always no-noing either him or the dogs! I wouldn't be surprised to hear that I say it in my sleep!
That's about it for getting everyone caught up. Now on to next year............
I made a chicken pot pie for dinner on Sunday night. So as I was whipping this up, I started thinking! (scary, I know) Anyway, I decided to use chicken pot pie for my garden inspiration next year! I want to make an entire chicken pot pie from home grown foods, including the chicken, of course!! That means that next year I will plant: corn, green beans, peas, potatoes, carrots and of course have more chickens! I know it sounds rather silly, but I tend to get very overwhelmed when it comes to gardening and I don't know what to plant. Now that I have a "plan", I can research when and where to plant the chosen foods! How rewarding it will be when I can serve my first homegrown chickn pot pie!! |
