A Work in Progress

Mr. Bubbers, new look, food, nourishing traditions

Hello there! I have been long gone for quite a while now. Things are finally starting to slow down post baby. He is now 2 1/2 months old and so much fun! What a blessing. His new favorite pastime is trying to figure out how to work his little hands to grab a hold of daddy or mommy's fingers. So cute! He is back up to where he should be weight wise. I have not been able to increase my milk supply to the point of sustaining him, but he is healthy as far as we can tell on the combination of my milk and goat's milk, so we are very thankful. Here's a recent pic:

In other news... We got our first bulk foods order from Something Better Natural Foods. Great stuff! We got:
*10 lbs. sucanat
*2 bottles of unfiltered EV olive oil
*10 lbs. pinto beans
*5 lbs. black beans
*25 lbs. hard white wheat
*5 lbs. organic raisins
*5 lbs. evaporated cane juice crystals
*1 bottle of organic black strap molasses
*5 lbs. long grain brown rice

What we didn't get is what we eat most often: 25 lbs. of oats. Anyways, this was a trial run to see how things come packaged, exactly how much is 25 lbs. of wheat, etc.

Since Mr. Bubbers (our baby) was born I have not been so diligent about frugal cooking. We have been eating a lot of frozen foods, convenience foods, etc. I revamped our eating habits on paper this past week and will be digging into those beans this coming week to start saving us some money.

It has been chilly here in southern MI this week - highs in the 20s. There is a slight dusting of snow. I love snow. I used to live in the Keweenaw Peninsula of the UP in college and fell in love with the place, and the snow. I would love to move back there someday if the Lord wills it. We shall see.

I had a chance to read the Nourishing Traditions book pretty much cover to cover while I was nursing him 24/7. Wow! Good stuff. I would love to start implementing these things around here. I actually made a recipe from the book today - brown rice pudding. I had leftover brown rice from the other night and needed to use it up. It's tasty - I quality control tested it just in case . I will have to work on implementing the concepts into our diets.

Well that's all for now. Just took an egg casserole out of the oven and we will be having that with a spinach salad and some oatmeal for dinner. I love breakfast for dinner. Take care!
