The Sound of Spring with Bing Futch and Rosin The Beau

Recently we were doing some digging around the homestead...

...and re-discovered a mountain dulcimer that was stuck away in a closet somewhere. It is at least 10 years old tear drop with a nice sweet full sound.
A few posts ago Ray (zoggypdx) asked what sort of music we like and I wrote about the Irish pub / mountain music that my grandfather used to play.

I have been learning a song on the mountain dulcimer called "Rosin The Beau." This is the music I love and it moves soul.

You can listen to it being performed by my favorite mountain dulcimer player, Bing Futch.

I say all of this because when I listen to this wonderful old song, it reminds me of spring. "Rosin The Beau" is a sweet slow Irish tune that brings back grassy fields with the wild flowers just starting to pop up. I close my eyes and I can smell the sweetness on the warm breeze blowing.

We are preparing to start up our Wisdom Farms Radio (podcast). I have been talking to Bing and he has agreed to let us use his music to accompany the show. We are really excited about this. Bing is one of the tops in the industry.

ABOUT BING FUTCH

Named "2006 Songwriter of the Year" by the Songwriters Showcases of America, Bing writes and sings tunes that defy comparison as he morphs between different styles and subject matter. His clear and expressive vocals range from wailing, soaring highs to smooth, soulful depths as he embodies the character and emotion in each song.

Bing discovered the mountain dulcimer in 1985 while working in parking control at Knott's Berry Farm theme park in California. He quickly transferred to the Dulcimer Shop, which was owned by Bud and Donna Ford. "I had no idea that they were such key players in the scene, " said Bing, "not until a lot of time had passed." In fact, twenty years of experimenting, practicing, recording and performing went by before he finally got plugged into the national dulcimer scene. "There was no Internet back then, no local stores with dulcimer instruction books or records. I'd ask for something dulcimer-related and they'd say I was in the wrong store." With only two beginner's books and a trio of cassettes by Neal Hellman, Michael Rugg and the late David Schnaufer as inspiration, Bing was left to his own devices until he discovered the EverythingDulcimer.com website in late 2003. "It put me in touch with other dulcimer players," said Bing. "That was a Godsend."

So I hoped you have enjoyed our little taste of Spring with Bing Futch and Rosin The Beau.

In His Service,

Ray
