Homeschooling Links
I haven't been posting on here like I used to due to the fact that I've been busy with my other blog. I can't seem to give this one up though because I'd miss my homestead buddies to much so I post on here so you can check me out elsewhere. I know I know and I'm sorry to take you away but maybe you can link to me so as not to forget me as I don't post on here every day like I do my other blog. With that said, I've posted some of my favorite homeschool links and will be posting more soon. We are schooling through the summer so these were fresh on my mind. Come on over to Homesteaders Heart and check them out.
Blessings.

Fishing Trip To Cape Canaveral Trident Basin and History Lesson
My husband works up at Cape Canaveral Air Force Base and he had been telling me about this Trident Basin where the subs come in for maintenance before heading back out to sea. He said that it's loaded with fish and they are allowed to bring one "guest" in with them to fish. Well yesterday we went. By the time we drove 45 mins. stopped to catch some bait, get my pass, get our fishing passes and get set up we only fished for about an hour before the storm hit. But let me back up to when we got there. In just about a 20 foot area I saw manatee, snook, snapper, flounder, nurse shark, sting rays, bait fish, sheepshead and more. I mean I got all excited. This trident basin is huge, so if I saw that many fish just looking in that small an area just think what's out there. So we started fishing and I got a small fish and had hits and lost a couple and my husband caught 3 flounder. But like I said we had to stop early because of the famous Florida thunderstorms. We hunkered down (hurricane term, used way to much during hurricanes) and we were going to wait the storm out but realized it just wasn't going to let up enough to fish. The Cape goes into phases and if it's a phase 2(which means lightening within 5 miles) you can't be outside. So he took me on a tour of the Cape instead. If you didn't know where you were going you'd get lost. This place is huge and we only stayed on the south end of it. He showed me the launch pad that he works on and while driving we saw lots of deer. The beach there is deserted because civilians can't access it ( that's another date hee hee). I got to see the lighthouse up close, but it was still raining so we didn't get out. He took me to an old graveyard that a ship captain was buried with 4 other unknown people. There are graveyard scattered throughout the cape where settlers used to live there way back in the day. As we were driving by I saw a tribute to John Glen and he's like " yeah that's the complex that John Glen first went into orbit," and I'm like stop man that's history lol. So we took pictures the best we could of the signs, but like I said it was getting dark and still kind of rainy. You can make out what the plaque says though. How cool to be standing just a short distance away from where the first manned launch was. He showed me the place where a rocket blew up on the pad and the astronauts all lost their lives. You just don't realize what a major risk it is every time they launch something. They shut the pad down after that. I'm assuming in respects to the astronauts. Here are some pictures of my trip. They aren't great because of the conditions but still cool if you have never been on the Cape.

I guess you can't read this as well as I thought. It says:
John H Glenn Jr
The First American To Travel Around this Planet began his 3 orbit flight from this launch complex in Friendship 7 of Mercury Atlas no.6 at 9:47 am February 20, 1962. Project Mercury was a vital step on man's journey to the moon.
Cool HUH?!

We'll be going back maybe this weekend. Hopefully I can get some better pictures. I hope you enjoyed your little tour of the Cape. My husband gets so much info and stickers from the Cape. If you are ever doing a homeschool project on Space let me know I'll see what we could send you.
Blessings!

Coastal Curriculum Fair
Books, books and more books. I can't wait to go to the curriculum fair today. The smell, the sites the sounds......only a homeschooling Mom can appreciate lol. No I take that back. My husband likes going too. Oh you get to get all touchy feely with all the new books. I love it.
Here are some tips for surviving a curriculum fair.
1. Go with a budget in mind. (It is to tempting to buy everything in sight but you know you don't need it all and won't use half of it, so budget your money,)
2. Go with a list. ( Buy only what you have on your list. Put thoughtful time into the list as to make sure you have everything you need on it.)
3. Go with a tote bag to put samples and brochures and your bought merchandise in.
4. Check ebay first lol. I always check ebay to see if I can get it cheaper used before I buy brand new. Granted buying at a curiculum fair you don't have to pay shipping and handling but it can still add up fast.
That's all I can think of for right now. If you have any tips post them as a comment for others to read. I will post another time what I purchased and what I hope to accomplish for the coming year.
Blessings my friends.
