Seeds

Posted in Around the Homestead

Oh, we have been drooling over the seed catalogs and I believe that we know what we want.  I think we are going to order them sometime next week.
So, what are we going to order.  Well of course potatoes, tomatoes, carrots, beans(green and I think pinto), pumpkins, and corn.  There are other things as well, but we just need to decide on which ones in particular.  Like we want some cucumbers so we can try to make our very own dill pickles!  We want some other squash but we just don't know which ones for sure.  So, I am guessing that we will hit the catalogs again to make our final decisions.
We have also talked about getting some grapes.  That would be wonderful to make our own jelly or wine!
Strawberries, are a go as well.  We all love strawberries!
We are also thinking about getting some fruit trees that will grow in our zone.  I know we can do apples, but we need to find out what else we can grow up here.
We still haven't decided what we are going to do with the boys' pigs.  I mean it is expensive to buy feed so we are not sure if we want to breed them or butcher them.  I wish that the county fair board people did not decide to have the animals get the national id number stuff.  The boys were excited about showing the pigs at the fair and selling them for some money.  I don't remember if I mentioned it or not, but we are thinking about pulling them out of 4-H because of it.
Some of us are still on the road of recovery for the virus we had.  I wonder if God is testing us?  I mean we have been so sick this year it is crazy!
Trinity will be making her First Communion on the 18th of May!  We are so excited and happy for her.  She is going to be able to receive Holy Eucharist from now on!  What a wonderful gift that Christ gave to us.
Did you all hear about the riots going on in Mexico because of the shortage of corn, which means no corn tortillias?  Thank  you  NAFTA!  I tell you, all of the food shortages, the price of fuel, the price of everything now...well  it is just crazy.
