From Town to Country: A Wife's Tale

We had Madison's birthday party today.  It was small but Madison enjoyed herself.  It was a pretty nice day.  Cloudy, but warm.  Her cousins were here and that was important to her.

Rich took Gunnie to the farm.  She is now getting up and standing/walking on her own.  WOOHOO!  We are so happy.  We are keeping her in the barn with the young-uns until we know she can hold her own with the herd.

Gunner is doing fine.  He knows what the red nipple means and sucks down his feeding in no time.  He's already starting to stand on the small box in his cage.  Ellie is being a great foster mama and cleaning him up for us.

I'm a bit upset with my turkey raising skills.  I bought 5 turkey poults last Wednesday and had 2 die.  I'm trying to figure out what happened and want to make sure the 3 that are left make it to adulthood.  I put 4 broiler chicks in with them daily as I read that chicks will help the poults find their food and water.  I have watched them all eat and drink.  I have a brooder light on them.  I don't know what I'm doing or not doing that caused the 2 to die.  Any suggestions for me?

Carol,
So glad to hear that Gunnie and Gunner continue to do well! I don't have any thoughts on the turkey poults, I would think putting the chicks with them would have helped.

About Me

We've been working on the family farm for 3 years trying to get it back to a working farm. The farm was neglected for 15+ years before we took it on. The summer of 2008 is our family's first experience living in the country, so began our journey from town to country...
