From Town to Country: A Wife's Tale

• Thursday, April 17, 2008 - They're Here

Yes, Gunnie delivered twins today.  We went out to check on her and put her in the sling.  I took a look and thought, oh my..  she must have had a very full bladder!  When I got closer, I noticed blood and a newborn kid.  She was beautiful but unfortunately, despite our best efforts she was just too weak to survive.  She couldn't suck and I couldnn't get her to warm up internally.

While I was doing my best to save the doeling, I watched Rich (via goat cam) deliver a beautiful buckling.  He immediately brought him in the house.  The little guy just about jumped out of the box on the way, very different from the doeling.  Ellie took care of cleaning "Gunner" up and he readily took some colostrum for us.  I think he believes Ellie is his Mom.  Its really pretty cute.

Gunnie is eating and drinking like she is starving to death.  She still isn't on her feet.  At the moment, I'm waiting just to make sure she's done kidding.  She has no milk in her udder and is really a mess.  She needs a really good shower!  lol  Do you shower a goat?  hahaha

OK, I'm off to check on Gunnie.

Glad to hear Gunnie finally delivered. I have sent you an email with some thoughts about caring for the buckling.

Thanks Marilyn. We were really hoping for triplets since these will be bottle babies but I think Gunnie is done.

About Me

We've been working on the family farm for 3 years trying to get it back to a working farm. The farm was neglected for 15+ years before we took it on. The summer of 2008 is our family's first experience living in the country, so began our journey from town to country...
