We have a still pregnant live goat today. I called the vet and she said to continue our current treatment and that we should try and get Gunnie up. She also mentioned that maybe we are dealing with a pinched nerve. She had no explaination for the labor drug not working.
So, I sit down to check email and Marilyn for heritagehill has emailed me. And she said the same thing about Gunnie, you need to get her up. Ok, you don't have to tell me a 3rd time, I get the hint, LOL.
So I mention to Rich that maybe we should try Chas' Hoyer lift we used on her many moons ago before she was mobile. He thought that was a good idea and we dug the thing out of storage. it took us a bit to find all the pieces and Rich had to fix the hooks but for a mahine that hadn't been looked at in over 15 years, it didn't look too bad.
So off to Gunnie's pen we went, Hoyer and sling in tow. Gunnie gave us a very questionable look but allowed us to move her onto the sling and hoist her in the air. She immediately put weight on her front legs but her poor back legs were curled and lifeless and I thought, oh great, we are too late. So, being a nurse.. I decided to do a bit of range of motion on her back legs thinking maybe I could "wake" them up. Sure enough, I only moved them a few times and she put them on the ground.
Soon she was moving the whole device around and nibbling some food. She looked so good on all 4 legs and bearing weight on them. We left her "up" for about 45 minutes.
Here she is just before we took her out of the sling:

She almost looks like she's smiling.
