We headed out early today to pick up our first katahdin sheep, Cooper. After the 2 1/2 hour drive we arrived at Fox Lake Farm. Theresa and Lance are very much like us when it comes to the farm. It was fun touring the farm and seeing how much they were really like us... couple different breeds of goats, some llamas, sheep, a few chickens and mini lop rabbits. They also had horses and a mule.
We also got the chance to bottle feed the lambs, one of which was Cooper (the lamb we cam to buy). What a cute little bugger he is. While Cooper got his ear tag changed (apparently, he's a big boy now and has outgrown his baby tag) I ventured over to the goat pens and meet their dairy Oberhasli nannies. Cute young ladies and both are expecting. Theresa informs me their milk tastes just like cow's milk. Now that I like to hear as I'm looking for a dairy goat. I'm going to research them a bit.
And then, Theresa says, "want to see the cows?" I'm thinking, ok, cows.. not sure why she's so excited to show us cows.. Cows just aren't somethng to get to thrilled about, they are all over the place. So she takes us through the llama pen into the back pasture.. and there they were.. Scottish Highlander cattle. I'm instantly in love and wishing they were for sale and we had brought a trailer. Now I understand Theresa's excitement as she's kissing the bull on the nose. I wish I would have remembered the camera and taken a picture. Anyhow, these gentle woolies are on my list to research.
After spending 2 hours at the farm, we headed home with Cooper safely in the pet carrier in the back seat. Unfortunately, Cooper doesn't care to ride in a car as he "baa-d" all the way home!
