I was up at 5 am with Chas and checked the incubator. No chicks but by 7 am, peeping could be heard and sure enough, one little black wet chick was sitting in the incubator. Soon to follow were 2 more and so on. Right now, we have 13 chicks and several more eggs pipping.
There are were 45 eggs and we are hoping at least half will hatch. There are 6 duck eggs along the chicken eggs. I'm not sure they are good. But, just in case, I have the humidity so high that the little chicks don't dry off so I've been busy all day moving chicks from the incubator in the girls' room to the brooder box in the living room.
Rich and Madison headed out about 9 am to pick up our much anticipated herd of highlanders. I guess they had quite a time getting the 6 loaded. I heard something about 2 1/2 hours of load time, lol. They all returned home a little before 7 pm. Rich wanted the cattle in the fence BEFORE it got dark. He made it with about 15 minutes to spare. As I'm writing this, the cattle are in the fence chowing on hay. I hope they stay, Rich says the electric fence is malfunctioning . Our llamas are not so sure about their new neighbors. Ghandi doesn't like highlanders so they are in seperate pasture but share a fence line. I hope he doesn't jump the fence.
Since Chas and I were the only ones home, I decided to tackle a bunch of processing today, hence.. I'm tired.
I was out in the garden again and pulled the banana pepper plants, a green pepper plant and my celery plants. Then I started chopping, bagging and walking to the freezer.. 13 cups of celery. I have a basket full of peppers to chop for tomorrow.
I canned another 13 pints of apple sauce before I ran out of pint jars! So I have a bowl of applesauce in the frig. I also cooked some apples down for juice. I chopped up a huge basket full of apples for more sauce... guess I'll can that in the quart jars tomorrow.
Well, my back is shot and I need to rest. Tomorrow should be just as busy as today. GoodNight!
