I woke to a very cool morning. I didn't realize how cool until I was ready to take Madison to the bus stop and had to scrape frost off my windshield! UGH!!! I didn't know there were frost warnings out. Thank goodness my garden was spared, it sits sheltered a bit and is on a hill.
Since it was too cold to process chickens, I started on apples. I filled my 16 quart pot with apples and some water and put it on the stove to simmer. Rich mentioned we needed to get the raspberry plants in the ground so I headed out the door to get some compost while he finished his morning coffee.
While I was out prepping for raspberry planting, Rich received a call about an auction not far away that had a tractor on the sale bill that he might be interested in. In 20 minutes we were out the door to the auction.
Unfortunately, the tractor sold for way more then Rich wanted but he did manage to pick up a fuel barrel, so he was happy with that. We were gone a little over 2 hours.
We got home and Rich headed out to start digging planting holes for the raspberries and I headed into the house to change clothes. I opened to door and was greeted with the scent of cooked apples. OH NO! I forgot the apples cooking on the stove. I am so thankful that I placed the pot on the simmer burner, the apples had cooked down but no scorching! PHEW! My apple butter was done as well.
I planted the raspberries while Rich ran back to the auction site to bring his tank home. I decided to clean a portion of the barn to get some "mulch" to put around my plants. I filled a wheelbarrel. I didn't get a chance put it in place as Chas arrived home and we headed to town.
At our house in town, we picked 120+ pounds of apples from 2 haralson trees and a couple crabapple trees. That includes what I took off the ground for the critters at the farm. The trees are still loaded. I'm hoping to get the rest in the next week or 2.
The kids and I managed to make applesauce out of the cooked apples tonight. I will can them tomorrow along with the apple butter.
I'm tired so I'm off to bed.

From Glory Farm,
Rhonda
Hey Rhonda,
We have a bumper crop of apples this year. We totally ignore the trees, no spraying just cutting of branches. I thought they would be wormy but nope, very few have worms. I'm very pleased.. there are just so many!!
