From Town to Country: A Wife's Tale

• Friday, August 29, 2008 - So Pretty

Posted in In the Kitchen

I got an early start today on the tomatoes.  I went to harvest what was ready, not too many but enough.  I decided to cut a few up just to eat and try the new varieties I planted.  My MIL and Austin joined in on the taste testing.  Austin liked them all.  I thought the Lemon Boy was pretty good and MIL said she liked the orange one but still thinks red tomatoes are the best.  I have to agree with her.  I don't know/remember all the different varieties I planted.  I have lost the diagram I had.

Anyhow, thanks for the replies on yesterday's blog.  Austin tells me that the gal he got the fruit from called it a onion cucumber but all of you thought it was a lemon cucmber.  I have to say a lemon cucumber makes more sense, it really doesn't look like a onion.

I did get a chance to to make some tomato sauce with my Sauce Maker.  What a time saver!  No peeling or coring the tomatoes.  I love it. I'm sure its going to make great applesauce.

I better go, chores need to be done.
Carol

Your tomatoes are so pretty! What kind is the one in the bowl that has ridges in it, kinda like a tiny pumpkin (for lack of a better description)?

You have peeked my curiosity about the sauce maker. I have never heard of such till I saw it in your blo lately! Could you tell brand name and specifics on how it works? It sounds like a wonderful gadget!

About Me

We've been working on the family farm for 3 years trying to get it back to a working farm. The farm was neglected for 15+ years before we took it on. The summer of 2008 is our family's first experience living in the country, so began our journey from town to country...
