Today was errand run day for me. I had to get groceries and had a couple of appts. I also was to pick up parts for the baler that Rich and his step father were trying to fix.
That brought back memories of my childhood. I grew up in a small town where Dad was a farm mechanic. He had this big blue school bus he used as his traveling work shop. The phone for forever ringing from farmers needing his hands and knowledge to fix broke down machinery. Mom (SAHM) was the parts runner. She'd load up us kids (3) and off we went to the farm parts store for this thing or that. I remember many times her plopping down some greasy old part on the counter and saying I need one of these that works, lol.
We sure do miss Dad, he passed away in 2001 of lung cancer. His knowledge of the machinery Rich is using would be so helpful to us today.
Anyhoo, I thought I'd share that little history with you all. So unfortunately, I didn't have the part to toss on the counter as Mom did and the guy couldn't help me and Rich had the run the part in himself to find the replacement (which he did). Unfortunately, fixing one problem, uncovered a potential other problem . It got too dark before the guys could check anything more. The baler will have to wait until tomorrow.
The good news is that we got some much needed rain. It sprinkled a bit overnight and it is raining now as I type this. I hope we get a decent amount. My garden as well as the fields could use it.
I also pulled all my frozen chicken broth from my freezer and canned it today. I really need the room in the freezer for the processed chickens so I thought why not can the broth now that I have a pressure canner. Oh I do love using this device. Its going to save me tons of room in the freezers.
A quick note about Madison, she is doing great. The bruising has now set in but she is feeling so much better. I'm wondering if Grandma being here has "helped" the healing process . Grandma is getting a workout with Madison taking her here and there, showing her the things that keep Madison so busy here. I believe Grandma is quite impressed with the how much knowledge my "townie kid" knows about farming. I'm so proud!
Well, I better get to some paperwork I'm behind on.
Good Night!
