I was able to get my beets pickled this morning, 10 pints. I'm so happy to have them out of the way. I still have another crop coming, but that will be in late September and hopefully Rich will use some of them for his Beet Wine.
I managed to get the weed patch out of my potato garden. It looks so much better. I was surprised to find a few plants struggling to survive despite my neglect. So I'll probably have to harvest those few, as the vines are drying up. I sure hope my in-laws are hungry for fresh produce from the garden! I have tons! LOL
I picked tomatoes again today and noticed that the cucumbers will need picking in the next day or 2. And I don't even want to look at the green beans! I'm trying to figure out how I did this last year with working 2 jobs. Now, I've been a SAHM since July and can't keep up! UGH!! How do you ladies get it all done?
I thought I'd now have extra time to bake bread, sew and such... but NOPE, I can't seem to find the time. Granted, we are now living on the farm and have a lot of critters that take time and Rich needs me to help him often esp. since he started baling. Baling is something we've never done before, since initiating our farm lifestyle.
I've never realized how much time a farmer spends, in the summer, preparing for winter. When you have animals to feed/house, during those cold nasty months, AND don't want to have to buy grain/feed, you work very hard throughout the summer! I guess we're not the first to work this way... folks have been doing it for thousands of years... and I suppose they will continue to do so after we're gone.
I better go, I need to finish the tomatoes so they are ready for canning in the am.
