From Town to Country: A Wife's Tale

• Sunday, July 13, 2008 - Internet and Weekends at the farm

Posted in Farm

This is from my journal at the farm. Its probably a late entry. I may make several entries a day to try to keep up with the backlog of entries I have.

Pumpkin (new kitten) has 1 eye open already and the other one is starting.  The other 4 kittens still have closed eyes.  Onyx continues to be a very good daddy.  He lays with the kittens when Opal is off eating or taking a break.

We spent a quiet day not doing too much, several loads of laundry.  It was a perfect day for line drying with a good breeze.  The girls spent some time in the kiddie pool.

We also discussed getting internet access at the farm.  I think Rich finally feels it's something we should have out here even if its just dial up.  With the price of gas, driving back home or to the library to check email, etc. is not a quick cheap trip anymore.  And Rich feels a bit lost without his blogging, so do I for that matter.

We also discussed what we are going to do for the fall and winter when we move back to town.  Rich is concerned about the price of gas and making the 2 trips a day to check on the critters out here.  Our school district is going to a 4 day a week school year.  So that means Madison has most Mondays off making for a long weekend, which opens up the possibly of staying on the farm on weekends.  Since we have now lived out here and I have duplicated most of the things I use on a daily/weekly basis.  So I think it would work fairly well.  The only thing we are really concerned with is water.  Rich isn't sure he wants to leave the heat on so the pipes don't freeze but I know we can't stay out here for 3 nights without running water especially with Chas.  So we tabled the idea and will do some more thinking.

About Me

We've been working on the family farm for 3 years trying to get it back to a working farm. The farm was neglected for 15+ years before we took it on. The summer of 2008 is our family's first experience living in the country, so began our journey from town to country...
