This is from my journal at the farm. Its probably a late entry. I may make several entries a day to try to keep up with the backlog of entries I have.
WOW! I can't believe what just happens a couple hours ago. People really do amze me at times. Here's what happpened:
I was out picking lettuce from the garden for supper about 6 pm. Here comes a car into the driveway. Now we don't get many visitors out here and I didn't recognize the car. We weren't expecting anyone.
So I walk over and still don't recognize the people until the man started talking. It was the guy and his wife who owned the land our barn was sitting on before the tornado blew it down. He handed me a check stating he felt bad with what happened to our barn and since we didn't have it insured, thought we could use the help. I stood there, speechless, as I put the check in my lettuce. I didn't even turn it over to see what it said. I finally managed to squeak out a thank you so very much and you didn't have to do this inbetween the tears. His simple reply was "Its the right thing to do. Everyone needs to help one another at times." He shook my hand and off they drove.
I came into the house and Rich asked, "who was that?" I replied, "a very generous man", handed him the check and told him what had just happened. I'm not going to say how much the check was but it was generous and the simple jesture probably means more to us. There are still good decent people out there.
The one thing we still question is, how did he find us? He did not own the barn, we bought it from someone else. The one and only time we had any contact with him was after the barn was hit. The farm is not our permanent address, so how did he find us? We will probably never know. Maybe its best not to know.
