I woke this morning (4:50 am) to thunder and lightening, So off I went to close the windows as I could smell the rain coming our way. There were some nasty storms headed our way. We were lucky, we only had rain and wind.. other places in MN had tornadoes and high winds. Ovverall, the rain gauge said 9/10th of an inch. So Rich is happy, he figures he got the 2 inches of miature needed for the beans to do well at harvest.
Since it had rained, our goats tend to hang out in the barn when the pastures are wet. So I thought it would be a good time to deworm those goats who needed it. We decided to only worm on an individual basis, if you show signs of worms, you get the medication. Mary, Martha, Gunnie, Jumper, and Jackie were the lucky recipents of my lovely cocktail. They didn't seem real impressed.
We are still gearing up for the fair. Madison is putting the finishing touches on her display boards and working with the rabbits. The rabbits look pretty good this year. Nobody is mottling and only SweetPea is a bit sunburnt. They should all do well. She is also busy teaching Austin how to hold and manage the rabbits he is showing. Its fun to watch a 10 year old teach a 19 year old.
I'm probably more nervous about Madison's poultry entries. She's never shown poultry before so this is new ground for us. Let's see, I believe she has 7 pens entered. So we decided this is her "learning" year. She knows she may get reds because we are unsure of all those details the experienced 4Hers know. And that's ok with her. We did the same with rabbits when we were first starting.
Rich has decided he is biking to Sturgis. So I'm awfully glad we don't have any larger animals to take to the fair. Driving the truck is bad enough without worrying about a trailer and critters! Rich said if we were taking goats/sheep/llamas that he figured I could just ask Farmer Mike to help me. I'm sure I could but its just one less thing to worry about.
Well, I'm off to do chores and hoping to check rabbit ear tatoos to see if any need touch ups.
Later!
