We butchered 10 broilers today. We are skinning them and man does that go fast. Its much easier on the back as well. We will pick a few as well but not until we get down to the last few.
Sadly, a hawk killed a layer poult so we ended up butchering her as well. Madsion just missed the kill when she went down to the barn to check on the rabbits due to the heat. She said she chased the hawk out of the barn and hopefully scared it so it wouldn't return. She also discovered its nest out in the pasture. As she put it, "a real ugly nest, Mom.. a sign of a killer bird." I just hope it hasn't decided that my poultry flock is "good eats"
I received a call from my friend Karen O. Her hubby was going to destroy 3 pigs today (one with a rupture & 2 runts). She told him to wait until she spoke with me as she knew we were looking for hogs. Well, to make along story short, we will have 3 new additions to the farm come Monday morning about 6:30 am. |
