Local Foods and Seasonal Foods

Lately I have been reading a lot of information about eating locally and it is something I really think is worth taking a look at. I am not so much a supporter of it because of global warming and gas issues but more because of the supporting local and small business as well as using healthy and sustainable agriculture practices. I also like knowing where my food is coming from and how it was grown. When you grab something at the store you have no idea how it was handled, how old it is, and what kinds of alterations have been made to the food.

Another topic I am interested in is seasonal eating. I am having a hard time finding a lot of information on how to do it especially for those of us who live in a northern climate. I am convinced that eating the foods that are in season and grown near by are the best foods for your body. I just do not know how to go about doing it and I am afraid of a winter of just eating meat, dairy, breads, carrots, potatoes, and onions.

If anyone can point me in the direction of any good reading online or off on either of these topics I would appreciate the help and suggestions :) Have a great Sunday.

Sunday, July 8, 2007 - Seasonal foods

Hi there,
Have you tried canning in season foods? Then you can have them all year. Of course, fresh is best, but when there is no choice...:)!
