Wanna Be a Steader!

Blog Name Change

Hello Friends!
The Wood family has a new blog name as you might have noticed. Since we were no longer on property we thought AB-Ranch wasn't an accurate description of where we were at the moment. After much discussion the children came up with this name, "Bought with a price." as a reminder to us that no matter where this journey in life takes us we should remember that we have been bought with a price we are not our own. It is our desire to live each day for His purpose not our own! The children came up with other names and voted on them. The winner, Elisha, gets to make cookies with mommy tomorrow and since Sammy was his helper... Sammy gets to pick which cookies we make! It was fun coming up with a blog name that represents the entire family. We will continue sharing our lives with you and the good work the Father continues to do in our lives. We hope you all know how much you mean to the Wood family. We consider your friendship priceless! If any of you should ever find yourself in Kansas know that we will always have room for you!

Oh, and something that my Joe mentioned the other day.... we use to live in the exact center of CA. Now we live in the center of the United States! Fun!!!

On behalf of the entire Wood family....
Mrs. Joseph Wood

I got a Joey story..........the storyteller told how Jesus healed the blind man and then asked what Jesus did. Naturally Joey raised his hand. He spit in the mud like this: Hock and spit on the carpet. The storyteller took it all in stride and said that yes he did, but we don't spit IN the church--only outside........ I didn't ask if she called on him tonight!;)

Dead Limp Fish

Did I get your attention with the title?  Now for the question -  Who taught someone the Dead, Limp, Fish Handshake, and then allowed them to pass it onto millions more?  I only ask, because I received one yesterday when meeting my daughter's swim teacher for the first time.  It was wimpy and limp and didn't leave me with a lasting impression.

I was taught by my father, many years ago, a firm handshake speaks confidence, trustworthiness and honesty.  It affects first impressions for both men and women.  What are some good characteristics of a firm handshake:  strength, vigor, duration, eye contact and completeness of grip.

There is nothing worse than meeting someone for the first time, expecting to receive a firm handshake, only to get that wimpy, dead, floppy half of a shake.  I can understand when woman to woman, the shake is a little weak, but it bothers me when men shake my hand with this handshake.  It tells me that they don't think enough of me, that somehow I'm not worthy of their respect.

If you've forgotten how to shake hands properly, watch this video for a refresher course.  Please, oh please, can we ban these dead, limp fish handshakes!

Doctor appt today...

Well I went to the doctor again today. They gave me my b12 and then sent me to the hospital for blood work, a test on my  urin, and a  ct on my kidneys, gal balder, balder, and tummy.. I have not got the test results back from the ct yet. It will be in the am. However i did get the results back from my blood work. ALL Numbers are down.. They are LOW... And the Urin test came back and I have a infection that came back to high to count....  So i am now on meds for the infection again, on pain pills, on tummy pills, and iron still... We are waiting on the ct result and the doctor said he will go from there.  I am wiped out...  Bless my doctors heart. He called me back to his office while i was at the hospital after i finished the ct to talk to me about my blood work and urin test... I thanked him to listening to me about how i was feeling and not treating me like I was crazy.. He smiled and said there was NO need to thank him.. And that there is something wrong and that we WILL find out what it is and get me back in shape...  For me I have never been one that went to a doctor unless i had to.. So for me to go to the doctor i have to be sick.. I  MEAN SICK.. But i will be honest  with you.. This doctor has given me a new vision of doctors.. HE is wonderful.. He listens to me. HE takes the time to answer my questions. I am so thankful to God for that..

I want to thank all my friends out there for praying for me.. God is working.. He is good.

god bless

Funerals & Birthdays

Tomorrow is my husbands birthday. He will be 35. He will also be doing his first funeral.    Sometimes being a pastor is just weird.

My SIL is in nursing school. A while back she met a gentleman, Mr. S,  in a nursing home and struck up a conversation with him about the Bible on his nightstand. Come to find out, he had been raised in a church, his wife was a believer, but he just didn't know if he was saved or not. So my SIL says "You have to meet my brother."

My husband started to stop by and visit when he was in the area (3 hrs away). He would read scripture and answer questions. After a few visits Mr. S asked Jesus into  his heart. Awesome, huh? My husband continued to visit when he could. Last week my husband got a call that Mr. S wasn't expected to live more than a day or so. My husband drove down right away. Mr. S was coherent enough to recognize my husband when he got there but then he started to slip away. My husband spent the day with the family. Many of them did not know he was saved and they were understandably upset. My husband was able to reassure them of his salvation and give them the peace that would be seeing him again someday. They asked my husband to do the funeral service and of course my husband said yes. So that is how he came to be doing his first funeral. On his birthday.

Blessings.

Gage Park

The Wood family is doing well! I have posted photos above of our trip to the park today. It started to rain and we thought we might have to turn around and go home however, we decided to pray that the Lord would hold off the rain till we were done with our trip. And guess what?!?  THE LORD DID JUST THAT! The Lord held off the rain until we got in the car and started out of the park... at that time the rain started coming down in buckets and lasted for hours. The children cheered and thanked the Lord with HUGE smiles! They witnessed the Lord answers prayer! I love moments like this when He builds their faith and let's them know He is listening and cares... even about trips to the park!

Funny moment of the day: Elisha and Timothy were talking about the Ark of the Covenant and its contents. When Timothy informed Elisha that the reason why God had the 10 commandments put in the Ark of the Covenant was because He didn't want Moses to break them again! LOL!!!!!!! Funny how children think of things isn't it?

Have a wonderful week dear friends!

My simple woman's daybook entry for July 7th

Outside my window ~ it is raining and very very windy. I almost feel like I am back in the Windy City of Chicago.

I am thinkingof how awful some people can be to go as far as trying to scam a vonerable 16 year old. We are praying for you Vivian!

I am thankful for The Lord who gave us the wisdom to know a true scammer, for my husband who works so hard to give us the things we long for, my children, my dear dear friends, the freedom to homeschool, the open fields for my furry friends to enjoy, the air I breath (which by the way isn't always easy with Asthma) I am thankful for the gift of creativity that the Lord has blessed me with.

I am creating ~ hand made recipe cards with my own original drawings on them, and more Note Cards.

From the kitchen ~ I can hear the beginning stages of dinner being prepared. Tonight Mariah is making Chicken Enchilada's. YUMO

I am going ~ to town today to get some advice about this scam. Praying all the way of course.

I am reading ~ Proverbs for parenting.

I am hoping ~ that I will find a way to bring peace into our home and to get back into a routine.

I am hearing ~ the very annoying sound of my dogs toe nails clicking and clanking on the floor as she walks from one room to another. Gee we have got to get them clipped.

Around the house ~ we are organizing the homeschool shelf and the office to prepare for the upcoming school year.

One of my favorite things ~creating cards, painting gourds and drawing. You really didn't expect me to just list one today DID YOU??

A few plans for the rest of the week ... ~ continue organizing and preparing for the school year, drawing, packing for my trip that is coming up!

A picture thought to share....

Our dolls are ready for this years adventure!

Thank God For that still small voice!

I thank God for that still small voice that he talks to us with! I was preparing supper and put some bread into the oven to crisp up for Garlic bread. After placing it in the oven I went into another room to continue some of my chores. I felt a need to go back into the kitchen to check the bread, and boy am I glad that I did! My oven was on fire!!!!   I knew that I wasn't supposed to throw water on it or it weould get worse. So I asked God what should I do?! This is what he told me to do: Turn off the burner out of the oven, take out the pan of bread very carefully, then throw baking soda on it. And that is exactly what I did! The fire went out instanly, our bread was saved, and my house is still standing, I don't think my oven is messed up , and I am not burnt! I thank God that he speaks to us!

I think the reason it caught on fire is that it had a little spilled greese in the bottom that I did not see. I baked chicken Sunday and hadn't used it since then.

God is soooooooooooo good to us!

I'm Going Bananas!!!!

I'm not kidding!  I am seriously going bananas!

I picked up a huge, huge, huge, (boy, do I wish I had a picture to show you), huge box of bananas at Save-a-Lots for $8.00.

I gave a bunch to my father, the kids have eaten bunches and bunches, and my oldest daughter made batches and batches of banana bread.

I am trying an experiment I heard about that said you could freeze bananas.  I wrapped 12 bunches of bananas in aluminum foil, then put them into freezer bags.  I read that the skins will turn black, but the bananas will stay good.

I still have many bunches left!!!!

Any banana recipes you would like to share?!?

Please!!!!

"God created rainy days so gardeners could get the housework done."

I'm not sure who said this, but it certainly has been true for me this week!

Peace and blessings, Kim
