Outside my window...Grey, drizzly, unseasonably cool.  Take THAT Al Gore!

I am thinking...about the business I'm praying about starting.

From the learning rooms...preparations for DD#2's homeschool graduation!

I am thankful for...the small savings we had when DH got laid off 2 months ago & having been already living frugally so that not having a severance hasn't crushed us.

From the kitchen...stir fry w/rice for lunch; not sure about supper.

I am wearing...jeans, blue t-shirt, brown zippered hoodie.

I am reading...'starting a small business' websites.

I am hoping...that I have the nerve to continue on w/the small business & that my business plan is ok.

I am creating...a cleaned-out school room.

I am hearing...the radio.

Around the house...deep cleaning the school room.  So weird to think that I don't need to keep school planning in the back of my mind all summer.

One of my favorite things...my log front porch swing.

A few plans for the rest of the week...cleaning, cleaning, cleaning; weeding herb garden, various graduation open houses...

Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you...

This is my Dogwood tree earlier this spring.

For Today...

Outside my window...Beautiful sunshine, blue skies.  It will be hot and humid today, ushering in t-storms for tonight.  Enjoy the sun while we can.

I am thinking...That 10 years ago right now, my family was at my Daddy's hosital bed knowing that he had less than 24 hours left w/us until we meet again in Heaven.  Unbelievable that it's been so long.

From the learning rooms...Preparing for DD#2's homeschool graduation!

I am thankful for...My dear DH who is willing to try anything to get a new job since his lay-off.  He has a class today at a job finder.

From the kitchen...Made homemade chicken noodle soup yesterday; since I will be out w/my mom most of the day, DD#2 will be the cook for DH.  DD#1 is at work all day, so she will eat out.

I am wearing...tan capri pants w/bumble bees all over, black top.

I am reading...STILL reading "Mansfield Park" by Jane Austin.  I have sadly not had the time to read that I'd like.

I am hoping...That my mom's Dr's appt is productive and that she doesn't have Alzheimer's.

I am creating...Frugal ideas for DD#2's graduation.

I am hearing...The radio, the dog's tags jingling as she prances past me.

Around the house...Everyone is going their seperate ways today - I hate that.  I'm going to take my mom for her Dr's tests, DH is going to his class, DD#1 is at work, DD#2 will be stuck "holding down the fort" while we're all gone.  Poor DD#2!

One of my favorite things...Riding horses.

A few plans for the rest of the week...MASSIVE house cleaning before the grad open house; finishing weeding my garden.

Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you...

For Today...

Outside my window...Beautiful, lovely sunshine!  In the mid-60's degrees; will only get up to around 68 today.

I am thinking...about my DH's job situation.  If he doesn't find something by the end of the month we'll have to turn in 1 of our cars.  BUT I have faith that the Lord IS supplying even as I type!

From the learning rooms...Formal homeschooling in OVER!  After 16 years!  We will be graduating DD#2 on June 20th - ALL OF YOU who are local are invited!!

I am thankful for...An Imperials concert on May 20th, 1982...tomorrow will be my 27th b-day as a Christian.  THANK YOU, LORD!

From the kitchen...I need to run to the store and get some vanilla rice milk so that I can make a particular recipe for lunch.  DD#2 is allergic to dairy so I use rice milk in milk-related recipes.

I am wearing...burgandy thermal pants and a burgandy sweat shirt - it was a chilly morning.

I am reading..."Mansfiled Park" by Jane Austin.

I am hoping...That DH gets a job TODAY!

I am creating...plans for DD#2's homeschool graduation and a business plan for a POSSIBLE home business.

I am hearing...The radio, traffic passing b/c the windows are open.

Around the house...I'm so excited that everything but 1 thing is growing in my garden.  I've 'graduated' myself from window herbs to a smallist herb/kitchen garden this year.

One of my favorite things...Seeing those lovely green plants pop up out of the grownd in my garden and knowing that it's what I WANT to be there and not a weed.  lol

A few plans for the rest of the week...meeting w/a group of ladies from church tonight, planning DD#2's graduation, sending out memory letter requests for DD's memory book, laundry, finding new ways to be frugal, attending a grad party.

Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you...

For Today...

Outside my window...Beautiful, lovely, bright sunshine and blue skies w/a few fluffy clouds.  New green leaves on our big Maple trees and songbirds singing their special songs!  PTL!

I am thinking...that I hope my husband finds a new - WONDERFUL - job SOON!  (Like...TODAY!)

From the learning rooms...Subjects are narrowing down as they are being completed.  DD#2 has completed American Gov't and Nature Journaling for the year.  Graduation is nearing!

I am thankful for...A husband who loves Jesus.

From the kitchen...Simple grilled cheese sandwiches & soup for lunch; cheesy quesadillas for supper...I think.

I am wearing...Jeans, blue plaid shirt.

I am reading...Gardening books; I may re-read some Jane Austin book.  I have them all (thanks to DD#1) and never tire of them.

I am hoping...that DD#1 has 'all her ducks in a row' as she plans to move out into her 1st apt this summer w/her friend.  Oh...when did my girls grow up?!?!

I am creating...an organized house.

I am hearing...the radio, birds singing outside the widows, the jingle-jangle of the dog's tags as she trots through the house.

Around the house...Deep spring cleaning room-by-room, school.  My herb garden is GROWING!  Woohoo!!

One of my favorite things...Food cooked on the grill.  Why is food cooked over a fire SO MUCH better?

A few plans for the rest of the week...DH is going to a job fair, homeschool, putting together a business plan for a POSSIBLE business I MAY start after DD#2 graduates, putting together 2 of my unit studies for publication ("Horses" & "Little Women ~ The Civil War for Girls").

Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you...

My sweet Grandpa has been on my heart all weekend.  My mom gave me one of his hats that has been at her house all these years (33) since he died.  I miss him SO much; he passed away only days before my 17th b-day.  He was a 'storybook' Gr-pa; a wonderful, godly man.

I am thinking...That I hope I can continue to bring cheer to my husband's heart while he is unemployed.

From the learning rooms...DD#2 has an American Gov't test.  Oh joy.  '-)

I am thankful for...The meager savings that we have to keep us going.

I am hoping...That my Dear Husband finds work SOON, he's starting to get discouraged and trying not to show his fear of our shrinking savings.

I am creating...a peaceful home.

I am hearing...radio, washing machine & dryer; listening for the bread machine beeper to go off so I can put the dough in the bread pan to rise and then bake.

Around the house...school is going on - DD#2 only has less than 4 weeks of homeschool to go; DD#1 is getting ready for the night-shift at work; I'm getting ready to do a little weeding in my herb garden (HOPING that it takes!), looking for new growth & hoping I don't "weed" the wrong thing!  lol

One of my favorite things...when our DD's recognize the love and work of the Lord in their lives.

A few plans for the rest of the week...homeschool, Dayton Dragon's baseball game, gym(?), DD#2 babysits on Friday, Sunday worship w/the saints!

Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you...

For Today...

Outside my window...dark, breezy night.  Sweet sounds of tree frogs along w/one abnoxious baby bird who must be afraid of the dark; it keeps chirpping non-stop.

I am thinking...about the nice time we had last night; my DH was baptized (he had been sprinkled as an infant, before) and we became members of our new church.  After, we had a nice talk w/our pastor and frozen custard at Culver's w/a nice couple from church.

From the learning rooms...other than the usualy, DD#2 helped me put in my new herb garden in the front yard where our huge pine tree had been.

I am thankful for...peace in my home.

From the kitchen...tonight I made boneless/skinless chicken breasts fried in olive oil w/Spike Seasoning, rosemary and my own herb mix sprinkled on top; potatoes w/cheese and green beans.

I am wearing...jammies; I'm doing my Daybook at night this time.

I am reading..."Treasury of Vintage Homemaking Skills," "Encyclopedia of Country Living" and notes from a ladies' meeting I went to on gardening for ideas for my herb garden.

I am hoping...my herb garden that I planted today takes off!

I am creating...good for my family.

I am hearing...the beautiful sound of tree frogs over that silly little bird!  I also hear bits and pieces of "Miss Potter" from the living room.

One of my favorite things...Laughing w/my family!

A few plans for the rest of the week...homeschool, job interviews for DH, weeding, deep cleaning a couple of rooms, church.

For Today...

Outside my window...Cool, gloomy, sunshine TRYING to break through.  It's nearly 50 degrees and the snow is nearly all melted and has left a soggy marsh and puddles in the backyard.

I am thinking...That I am running behind schedule on my chores.  This gloomy day is making me lazy.

From the learning rooms...We're about to do Marine Biology.

I am thankful for...Sunday spent w/dear friends.  Ty & I sang at the church of our dear friends - he used to be our pastor and his wife used to minister w/us on the praise team.  We also used to do a lot of speical music as a trio w/the wife (Avolon, The Martins, 2nd Chapter of Acts, Point of Grace and Philips, Craig and Dean).  We did 3 trio songs at their church yesterday and some other dear friends came, too.

From the kitchen...pasta, sauce, salad and homemade garlic bread.

I am wearing...my winter 'uniform' - HA! - jeans and one of my many 'Lakeside' hoodies.

I am creating...I'm thinking of getting a new latch-hook rug kit.

I am hearing...the radio, the furnace just came on.

Around the house...quiet day.  This gloomy weather makes me lazy.

One of my favorite things...the little rocker my Gr-pa made me when I was little.  I used it, our girls used it and now it sits in my living room w/a rag doll on it.  I get to see it everyday and it makes me smile.

A few plans for the rest of the week...meeting w/the pastor of our new church tonight, homeschool, gym, baby shower and Valentine's Day!

Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you...

The 1st annual Homeschool Prom was a beautiful success!!

The Simple Woman's Daybook ~ #20 ~ 2/2/09

For Today...

Outside my window...Melting snow.  It's still deep, but it's melting.  And guess what...we're to have MORE tonight!

I am thinking...that I think we have found our new church home.  Yesterday's sermon was so good.  The worship was a blessing and the people are friendly and welcoming.  We already know a few people there and this was DH and I's second visit (the girls have been there 3 times) and we all feel that we can fit in and find a ministry there.  PTL!!!

I am thankful for...my dear husband; he knows me and loves me anyway.

From the learning rooms...today in Life Skills we will be discussing prayer, contentment and joy from a Biblical point of view.  Not all life skills are hands-on.

From the kitchen...chicken noodle soups w/all sorts of big, cut-up veggies!

I am wearing...jeans, multi-colored turtle neck sweater and warm socks.

I am creating...a contented home life.

I am going...to take my mom out for lunch for her 79th b-day, this week.

I am reading...re-reading Dr. Rex Russel's EXCELLENT book, "What the Bible Says About Healthy Living."  It's one of those books that I try to read once a year.

I am hoping...to be able to see my mom and help her out more in the next couple of months.  My brother (who lives close to her - we are 26 miles away) is on his annual 2 month vacation to his place in Hawaii!  Must be nice.

I am hearing...radio, Maggie the dog prancing across the kitchen floor, the old floor creaking as DD#2 walks upstairs.

Around the house...cleaning, laundry...it's Monday.

One of my favorite things...Huge ice cicles hanging in front of my kitchen window.

A few plans for this week...homeschooling, accompanying DD#1 to an important appointment, homeschool gym, Saturday is our homeschool group's first annual PROM and DD#1 has been asked to go!  So, we'll be preening, dressing up and taking lots of pictures...and maybe shedding a few tears.  Sunday, DH and I are singing at a former pastor's church.

Here is a picture thought I am sharing...

Some of those ice cicles hanging outside my kitchen window and over our garage.

The Simple Woman's Daybook ~ #19 ~ 1/26/09

 FOR TODAY...

OUTSIDE MY WINDOW...Snow, snow and more snow.  Oh...and cold!

I AM THINKING...that I am so grateful that I won Candy Foote's e-book contest!  Yippee!!!  I have chosen her book "God's Word on Being a Woman, a Wife and a Mother" and I plan to go through it w/my girls.

I AM THANKFUL FOR...the fun Saturday I had w/my daughters and 3 other friends of ours.  Our homeschool group is having our first Homeschool Prom and dear Jenna was asked to go!  We went dress shopping on Saturday, I haven't had that much silly fun w/a group of girls - and the other mom who is my best friend - in a LONG time.  We giggled and ooo-ed and awww-ed and encouraged Jenna and gave our opinions.  There was even another group of girls who were trying on gowns for an up-coming ROTC ball and we all go invovled in helping each other pick out their gowns.  It was so much fun.  I wish I had had that much fun trying on gowns when I was in high school.  By the way, the young man who is taking Jenna was a terrific young man who's family we know and who we have watched grow up.

FROM THE LEARNING ROOM...a little catch-up from last week after taking Tuesday to watch the ingauguration and other activites around it on Tuesday.  My bad...when I was making the schedule I forgot to block out that day.  (My mind probably didn't want to accept it.)  I always have had my girls watch the inauguration for school.  Other than that, it's a regular school week.

FROM THE KITCHEN...Dirty rice for lunch.  Lazagna, salad and garlic bread sticks for supper.

I AM WEARING...my 'basic' Monday cold-weather clothes  light olive green turtle neck, dark olive green hoodie, jeans and warm socks.

I AM CREATING...thinking of starting a small knitting project.

I AM GOING...to the country stores later today and maybe on to the regular grocery stores.

I AM READING...Bible; rereading "Hearth & Home" by Karey Swan.

I AM HOPING...to get the house picked up from a busy week/weekend.

I AM HEARING...my radio, "shower music" coming from the bathroom.

AROUND THE HOUSE...picking up, laundry, mopping kitchen/bath floors...

ONE OF MY FAVORITE THINGS...holiday table conversations ~ talking about fun times in our childhood, remembering loved-ones who are gone and laughter that everyone enjoys.

A FEW PLANS FOR THE REST OF THE WEEK...grocery shopping, homeschool, picking up my food co-op order, Miami Valley Saints homeschool basketball game on Thursday night - it's Senior Night this week, making an eye exam appointment for Jasper and me.

HERE IS A PICTURE THOUGHT I AM SHARING:

Don't you just love Currier & Ives?

The Simple Woman's Daybook ~ #18 ~ 1/19/09

11:00, 2009-Jan-19 .. Posted in The Simple Woman Daybook .. 3 comments .. Link

For Today...

Outside my window...cold, deep snow w/a little sunshine trying to slip through.  The  top of the snow glitters like diamonds when the sun pops out.  It's about 20 degrees, which is a heat wave compared to the below 0 temps we had last week.

I am thinking...how happy I am to be off the couch.  I was sick w/a stomach flu Thursday - Saturday, and am still not quite 100%, but I was well enouch to have gone to church on Sunday and to have gone to our friends' home for dinner w/their guest from Kenya Africa!  What a trip he has had - SNOW and BELOW 0 temps for the first time in this life!  Not to mention the culture shock.  But the fellowship was sweet.

I am thankful for...health and a family who loves me enough to take care of me when "the care-taker" can't take care.

From the learning rooms...the man of the house is off work today for MLK Day...no school!

From the kitchen...easy and not very fragrant.  I'm still not up to all the odors yet.

I am wearing...what else on a cold day?...jeans, navy blue turtle neck, gold hoodie, warm socks.

I am creating...nothing today.

I am going...no where.  I'm anchored to the house, today.

I am reading...Bible - Colossians.

I am hoping...to be 100% soon.  That we will find a new church home soon.

I am hearing...radio next to me, man of the house watching T.V. in the living room.

Around the house...a slow, relaxing, recuperating day.

One of my favorite things...fellowship w/the saints on Sunday.

A few plans for the rest of the week...homeschool, watching the Inauguration (with a heavy heart and much prayer for my country, it's welfare and our freedom), gym, and re-starting the Great Expectations Classic Book Club for homeschool/high school girls on Friday.

Here is a picture thought I am sharing...

Our visiting Kenyan friend and brother in Christ, Pastor Joseph Murage.

About Me

Our family enjoys living in our mostly rural SW Ohio county. We enjoy the slower, more conservative life-style and the smiles on the faces of those around. Who needs the big city when you can have deer, coyotes and red foxes in your neighborhood? Or when you can see red-tailed hawks fly over your home? Or see the Milky Way when you look up into a clear night sky? Give me the country life any ol' time!
