The magazines will start hitting mailboxes at the end of January so if you want to get the Winter issue, you need to subscribe by January 6, 2008.

We've got tips on educational games to play with reference books, do's and don'ts on teaching history, and information on working at home and finding balance.

If you're already a subscriber, but you need to renew, now's your chance to do that so that you don't miss an issue.

It's a great way to start 2008!

We also have a great new free E-Book in the Store for January!Math Mammoth's Division 1: Divide and Conquer the Concepts lays a good foundation in basic division, cementing the
link between multiplication and division, and then solidly presents the concepts of remainder and divisibility. A good understanding with these helps the student later to understand factoring and long division. The book provides plenty of practice and stresses understanding of concepts.  You can get it FREE by clicking HERE.

WHAT A DEAL!!

02:12, 2007-Nov-30 .. Posted in The Old Schoolhouse .. 0 comments .. Link
The deal starts here at The Old Schoolhouse Magazine

Basically a person just buys a one-year sub for $25. It can be a new sub, renewal, or gift sub. And then they can add a one-year gift subscription for just $5 to their order! It's a great way to send a little encouragement to your homeschool friends. It's cheaper than a book, most candles, even the price of eating out for a lunch! And it's encouragement that will come right to their door four times a year. :O)

Now that is a deal! Check it out.

The Old Schoolhouse - Help with New Column!

09:51, 2007-Apr-3 .. Posted in The Old Schoolhouse .. 3 comments .. Link

Hey everyone, I need your help!

First of all...my new column - The Lesson Planner - will be debuting in this up-coming Spring issue of The Old Schoolhouse!  I'm SO excited!!  What I do in this column is deeply compare and contrast similar curriculums, resources and/or learning aids.  It will be the next best thing to actually holding the items in your hands and looking through them yourselves.

HERE'S WHERE I NEED YOUR HELP...Of course I have a few things up my sleeves already, but an on-going column needs on-going ideas.  SO...if you would, please let me know about any curriculum, learning resources, learning games, CDRoms, etc. that YOU would like for me to scrutinize for you.

Be sure to keep those ideas coming - even at later dates - when something crosses your mind.  THANKS AHEAD OF TIME!!

Blessings from Ohio, Kim Wolf<><

If you live and homeschool in Ohio, please go to the TOS Ohio blog (http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/OHIO) and include that blog on your friends list.  That way, I can put YOU on the Ohio friends list and if someone else - new to the blog - wants to read another Buckeye's blog, then they will see your link on the list!

Thanks so much!

I WON A CONTEST!!! WOO HOO!!!

06:40, 2006-Apr-29 .. Posted in The Old Schoolhouse .. 1 comments .. Link

I just found out that I won Gena's "Most Embarrassing Moment" contest on homeschoolblogger.com for the box of yummy See's candy!  Thanks, jayfromcleveland, for having pity on me and my stories!  I'm sure it will all be worth it when I bite into that yummy chocolate.

So, for those of you who don't frequent Gena's blog, here's my entry:

1) YEARS AGO, when I graduated from high school, King's Island amusement park used to have Grad Night - on this night, high school seniors w/special passes would come from all over Ohio to be locked in from 10p.m. to 6a.m. to ride rides, eat and...some would party and puke the night away. (They don't do this anymore.) After a great night of rides, screaming and fun, my friends Betsy and Brian and I piled into Betsy's 1970-something Pinto and watched the sun come up as we were waiting in the LONG line to exit the parking lot. When we opened the doors of Betsy's car to leave we noticed that there was a terrible odor - we, being stupid ps kids, thought maybe food odors from the park sifted in and settled. During our LONG wait to get out of the park, Brian was sitting on the back seat with his legs straddled the floor hump and putting the stupid green-glowing necklace he bought against things in the car to see how they looked in the green glow. Suddenly, he screamed and nearly made Betsy and I go through the broken sunroof! "What's the MATTER?!" Still holding his glowing green necklace against what he'd found he wrinkled up his whole face and said, (Beware - modified from PRE-Christian language!) "Somebody crapped in your car!!!!" There, on the floor hump, was a pile of ... stuff!

2) (OK...after you read this you're going to wonder why we ever go back to King's Island - just so you know, we DO prefer CEDAR POINT!!!) During my Jr. year, our school band went to King's Island to do a concert and then we were turned loose to enjoy the rest of the day/evening in the park! They USED to have one of those centrifugal force rides - you know, where you go around so fast that you're stuck to the wall and the floor drops out. I happened to have a severe crush on a VERY FUNNY band guy, Scott, and he shocked me to death by saying that he wanted to spend the day riding with ME!!!!!!! EEEKKK!!! High-school-girl-crush-heaven! THE VERY FIRST RIDE we went on was the centrifugal force ride. Got on, ride was spinning and Scott, true to his funny self, started making really funny remarks about people on the ride that only I could hear. Laughing hysterically on this ride is NOT the thing for ME to do...Let's just say that my legs were stuck to the wall and I COULDN'T CROSS THEM! I BEGGED Scott to stop being funny; which, of course, just made us laugh that much more. TOO LATE!!!! Now let me tell you...once you START the potty process in the midst of centrifugal force, you CANNOT STOP IT!!!! I do believe that I was drained from the top of my head to the tip of my toes...in a very crowded ride...with a bunch of school mates! BAND members, no less.

Now here's the sweet part: Scott felt so responsible that he waited outside the girls' restroom for nearly an hour while I went in, washed out my jeans and held them up to the hand dryer. He ended up winning me about 20 stuffed animals, we had to give most away 'cos they wouldn't fit on the school bus to take them home. He was a very sweet kid.

Hope you enjoyed my humiliation! ;-)

Blessings from Ohio, Kim Wolf<><
