New Children's Movie Aims to "Kill God"
PLEASE read the entry below, for Tia - Homeschool Blogger's editor. THEN PLEASE take the time to read the Snopes write-up about this shameful movie being released for the Christmas season...billed as a childrens' movie!

I'm not a movie goer myself but if I was I would definitely avoid The Golden Compass, a children's movie coming out this December. Why? The author of the book is an atheist and hates C.S. Lewis. Snopes.com says this is true.
I just want to warn Christian parents to be sure to research any movies they want to view. The Golden Compass is one man's plan to teach atheism and break down Christianity, not becuase he doesn't believe in it, but because he HATES it. Click on the link above to get a better picture of what this movie is really all about.

I do not watch movies made from books period, but I would say avoid these like the plague.
the first book - GC - was good, in a fantasy way. I liked it. the second book was also good; the third book revealed all of the build-up to God doesn't exist, or rather that He is only a selfish "angel" and "satan" just disagreed with him. I was disgusted - it was a well-written story, but the ending was very much in line with atheism - and today's atheism: not just disbelieving but anti-religion.

We saw the preview for the movie and thought it looked interesting. After doing a little research I saw it was based on a book that is the first in a trilogy, and I also learned it was somewhat controversial. I am not one to base my decisions on other people's opinions, so I checked the books out of the library to see for myself.
All I can say is wow. I'm SO glad I did some searching before just blindly taking my crew to this movie. There is NO WAY we'll be watching these. Nor is there any way my crew will read those books.

hey - went to your snoopes link - at the bottom, it says that Jesus is not mentioned in the books; that is wrong. sure, the character is never named, but there is no doubt about who it is. and, yes, it is NOT complimentary....
btw - I had never heard of these books - was just browsing at the library looking for reading material for a long plane ride when I found them.
