Wanna Be a Steader!

This resolution has actually changed little and has been renewed every year at the National NEA convention since around 1982. For some reason, it is getting more attention this year.

Yes, they must be running more scared than ever...possibly BECAUSE of outrageous things like the resolution passed just yesterday in Maine. Amazing that they just don't GET IT...they stomp on parental rights, indoctrinate the children with lies and garbage, don't protect them against bullies and extortion...and then...they have the gall to wonder why SO MANY families are choosing to homeschool. Amazing.

Then, when they find out that homeschoolers, ("mere" parents, mind you)...are doing a FAR superior job of educating & socializing their own children they feel that they have to do something even more drasictic...so they cook up something that infringes even more on parental rights....which makes MORE parents leave! Some even out of desperation - but God is good and He will use whatever He needs to use to get children back home.

I just saw the most incredible example of this yesterday in my own home.......I did an assessment for a family who started homeschooling last year...bless their hearts, they were completely on their own, didn't even know that there was a support group in our county, much less that there were even other homeschoolers around! Since they didn't have any one to rub shoulders with they did 2 things: 1) since they are low income they used everything that was free off the internet that they could, they found used textbooks at garage sales and library sales, they used little workbooks that they found in grocery stores and office supply stores (things our family has done when my husband was laid off) and 2) since they didn't know they had to have their child assessed until now when the school board told them, that's how they found my name......

Let me tell you what I saw: About a year ago they found out that even though their mentally retarded, 17 yo son was getting all A's and was on the Dean's list for his special ed classes, they found out that NOT ONLY could he NOT read, write or even recognize letters but that the reason he was being pushed through and was "on the Dean's list" his teacher was giving him the tests but was ALSO giving him the answer sheet and he was simply copying everything onto his own test sheet!! So, even though it is an incredible stretch for them, they decided that homeschooling would be the best for him.

And right they were...They brought a Rubbermaid tub of material to my house for me to look over for his assessment and what I found was that, even under severe financial hardship, this family had brought their mentally retarded, 17 yo son's education up from K level to BEGINNING 3rd GRADE LEVEL!!!!! In ONE year!!! Incredible!! I was ready to cry just looking through all that they had accomplished together.

I wish I had an award to give them. I wish the NEA could see THAT!
