Garden Help...
I need some help and advice. Ok...without sounding too crass, here goes...
Hello, my name is Kim...
(You say, "Hello, Kim")
...And I am a garden virgin! Will someone PLEASE help me?!
I am determined to have a wee, small start-up garden this year so that I can get my feet wet. I've done window herbs before, and loved it...until I forgot to have someone babysit them while we went on vacation last year and they died! This year, I would like to have more herbs - possibly outside where they can really spread - and maybe a tomatoe vine, cucumbers, leaf lettuce...very simple. I would also like to grow, harvest and dry my own herbs.
Can anyone get me started? I'll be using an unused section of an old flowerbed. What should I do to prepare the soil? WHEN should I plant? Will seed packets tell me this stuff? Any advice will be helpful.
BTW...I am in southwest Ohio, if that helps. Thanks bunches!!
Blessings from Ohio, Kim Wolf<><

I would recommend the book "The Square Foot Garden" for beginners...your library probably has it. I am sure there are other great beginner books out their, but this is the one I am familiar with!
Thanks for your sweet comment!

I second the opinion on Square Foot Gardening book, it is full of information. I also suggest you browse your library gardening book section and bring home a couple that intrest you.
Remember, don't try to plant tons of stuff, maybe 1 tomato plant, a few herbs, a couple of lettuce plants. I did a whole 10'x10' section and it was overwhelming the first year...ooohhh another tip....Look into companion planting, Basil loves tomatoes and helps confuse the bugs to keep them away
Keep us posted!

Love your wedding picture!
:)
If you can find a gardening book written especially for growing things in your state/area, it will be very helpful and worth every penny! :)
