REVIEW: Thoughts for Young Men - Addressing the Greatest Challenges in a Young Man's Life
Thoughts for Young Men - Addressing the Greatest Challenges in a Young Man's Life
By J. C. Ryle - distributed by Vision Forum
As the mother of all girls, there's no way that ANY young man intending to court any of our daughters will be allowed to do so without making the commitment to read this book. THAT'S how strongly my husband and I were impressed by it! Originally published in the late 1800's, it is now made available once again by Vision Forum. Thanks you, VF!
You know the old saying, "The more things change, the more they remain the same"? You'll find that true in reading this precious little 101 page book as Rev. Ryle councils young men on the the Dangers to Young Men that are common folly for them: Pride - "Pride is the oldest sin in the world. Satan and his angels fell by pride. They were not satisfied with their first situation and status. Thus pride stocked hell with its first inhabitants." Others that he covers are: the love of pleasure, thoughtlessness, the contempt of Christianity and the fear of man's opinion - "In a word, the opinion of the day becomes their religion, their creed, their Bible and thier god." Sound familiar? The other short chapters are Reasons for Exhorting Young Men, General Counsels to Young Men, Speical Rules for Young Men.
Finally, in his Conclusion, Rev. Ryle writes, "There is a solid peace in feeling that God is your friend. There is a real satisfaction in knowing that however your unworthiness, you are complete in Christ, that you have an enduring portion, that you have chosen that good part which shall not be taken from you."
I want the future husbands of our daughters to know this "good part." Some of you may be the parents of our future sons-in-laws, don't you want them to know the same?
