Can You Really Seperate Your Beliefs from Your Job?

03:03, 2008-Jun-10 .. Posted in Of Interest... .. 5 comments .. Link

Tia, a guest blogger on the TOS Publisher's "Home Where They Belong" blog, has a really good, very thought-provoking post today at http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/TOSPUBLISHER/545416.  It concerns what I have titled this entry and the questionable non-work habits, interests and 2nd jobs that some public school "teachers" are engaged in and if it influences what and/or how they teach public schooled children.  Can one REALLY seperate one's own beliefs from whatever your job is?  I don't happen to think so.  So, whether you read Tia's post or not, I wanted to share with you the comment I made - below.  I'll bet you've had MANY of the same sort of experiences - I would like to hear them.

NEVER let anyone tell you that you will ruin your children's chances of being "socialized" because you homeschool!!  NEVER!!  YOUR children - and your children's future employers and spouses and their children - will appreciate you for what you are doing now!

Unfortunately, it seems that I see this imagination that the two can be separated manifesting most in the 20-somethings and teens who were public/government schooled. I've had many examples, oddly enough, fairly recently. There just seems to be a real immaturity of thought and unwillingness to be tolerant in a generation who, ironically, has been taught the dogma of "the new tolerance" in school...

1) While in a checkout line, a young bag boy was going on and on about a lady w/a crying toddler in the next line. "Why do people bring their stupid kids to the store w/them, anyway? J**z, just take the kid home!..." When the check out lady, who was embarrassed by his stupidity, wouldn't say anything to him and he was going on and on, I had had enough. I quietly leaned in so as not to embarrass him anymore than he was embarrassing himself and told him that he was showing his own immaturity and if he wanted to continue working w/the public he needed to stop. I also told him that since he was bagging in a line full of mohers who have all been in the same position as the poor mom he was chastizing, that any one of us would be glad to report him to his manager. Remarkably, that didn't EVEN stop his rude ranting. After I was checked out I found the store manager. Know what he told me? "I know, I hear about it all the time. But if I fire him, he'll just go across the street to WalMart and get a job there. Then I'll hire someone new who will be exactly lke him...THEY'RE ALL THE SAME!" If I hadn't been so shocked by his answer I would have given him a list of homeschooled teens who could work for him!

2) Just last week I was at a local CVS to pick up a Rx. Just as I reached the register to be checked out I saw the new, utterly pornographic cover of Sports Illustrated. As the young checkout girl was ringing up my purchase I politely said, "Would you mind if I turned this SI around? It's pretty revealing and their are women and children in this store." Then when I turned it around, the back was nearly as bad as the front. I asked her if she had one of those plasitc shields to put over it that SI and Cosmo sometimes has w/their name on the front, so that the nasty covers won't be seen. The lady in line behind me commented that that would be a great idea because it was actually pretty pornographic...REALLY pushing the limit. The YOUNG checkout girl practically yelled at us insisting that "everything that needs to be covered IS covered! I don't see anything wrong w/it!" The other lady and myself were somewhat stunned by her remark and the severity of her response, so we just sort of looked at each other and let it go. Here's the clincher that revealed even more how immature she was and how, as you have said, she could not separate her beliefs from her work...just as I was about to exit the store she yelled across the store to me, "I'm 22 years old, HUN, and I don't see anything wrong w/it!" To which I probably shouldn't have, but I replied, "Well, I'm 49, HUN, and I do!" And walked out. After I got home I called CVS and told the manager about this exchange - including what I shamefully fired back as I excited. THIS manager, however, was far more shocked w/what her employee had said to 2 customers. I told her I didn't want the girl fired or anything, but she really needs to know how to relate to customers.

There are so many other examples I can think of, but they were the most recent. Without fail, those who I have had these experiences with have been fairly young and glowing examples of the morals that are taught in the public schools - liberal curriculum, liberal teachers and ignorant peers are a lethal combination to our society.

Been there.

I just wanted you to know that you are not alone in your happenings. My husband (before we married and before God delivered him and took the images) had a 25 year addiction to pornography. My father had a 50 year addiction to it. We have gone out of our way to avoid the magazines that show what you described.
We were at a Hucks store in a nearby town and my daughter turned a magazine over because of it being pornographic and the cashier (male) yelled at her for doing so. My friend heard all this (I wasn't in there) and proceeded to tell him how offended this makes people. He didn't care. He just told her off too.
I did write Wal-Mart one time due to the magazines and for a short while they put them on the top shelf at the back where the covers could not be seen. I have 2 sons (11 and 13) and believe me their eyes are drawn to anything revealing. God help us all.

I was at good will the other day and happened to be looking through what I thought was miniskirts, nope they were tops for lil girls. The much older lady than I said oh well what you gonna do, kids are going to where what they want, why fight it.. I responded in a polite voice, thats only because parents try to be their kids friends, instead of training up proper behavior. I am 30 years old, I am in that "gen x" that was raised up like this, its so sad really......It is truly by the Grace of the Lord I dont view life the same way alot of my peer age folks do.

I guess I better add, I wasnt looking for mini skirts, I was looking for long skirts, but happened to be wondering what the heck these clothes were.

GENERATIONAL CURSES

08:38, 2008-Jun-11 .. Posted by gokings13
My parents generation, was the generation of the "60's".
My parents generation? They were brainwashed by the feminist movement.
This generation was the FIRST generation to start dumping their kids off at baby sitters. (In droves)
Women were out of the home, making their mark in the world! They could CHOOSE if they wanted to have babies or abort them..........They were women, hear them roar.

Now, MY generation (those born in the 60's) was raised and reared by strangers, those of us that survived "mothers new choice"
Strangers who only watched me because they were paid. The first generation where "let the baby cry it out / don't pick them up you'll spoil them" Dr. Spock and Dr. Brazel Bazzel whatever his name is tried to tell parents HIS way was the best way to raise kids. Parents quit parenting and read books instead. Like kids were a 'gadget that required some sort of manual to follow"

MY generation WATCHED AND LEARNED our parents willingness to dive into 'self-absorption' head first, and abandon their kids........
Monkey see, Monkey do.

MY generation perfected the 'child dump'.
We opened 'day cares' or "schools". We dumped our kids in FANCY buildings with "educational value" to make ourselves feel better about abandoning our kids.
Some of us got nannies! So we really felt good about our selves.........besides, with a nanny you can work more. Some of us tried to be 'good parents' and ship them off to youth group.......where it's just NO different than the public school system. Everything is so watered down, dumbed down, because we are afraid of our own youth.
We plugged our kids into tv's - game consoles - ipods - cell phones -and the like. You know, because that's what kids do. We have created monsters.
My generation, children born in the 60's. We took the abortion issue from "the right to choose" to the "right to slaughter through the 9th month"......We have ruined the next generation.

AND NOW we are reaping what we have sown.
THAT GENERATION (children born in the 80's) is ticked off, empty, mannerless, careless, brainless. Godless.
We have let strangers raise them since they were 6 weeks old.
We have let a corrupt system brain wash them so they walk around like robot regergitating what has been pumped into their brains (evolution, global warming, mother earth,"alternative lifestyles")
They are more self-absorbed than my generation, or the one before me.
We can only thank ourselves and our parents.
Remember........ they will be the ones who decide if euthanasia becomes legal. The 60's brought FREEDOM of CHOICE in the womb. The 80's brought FREEDOM OF CHOICE for the full 9 months.
Now? Freedom from taking care of old mom and dad (if there is one)........when they get to be a pain in the butt.......just put them down like you do an old dog.
Euthanasia is the next step in this generational curse.

God help my generation when we get old...............

I loved your response, HUN!! It made me laugh - but I know exactly what you're saying. I'm 36 and see it in my generation too - it's very scary.
I once worked for a respected christian leader who always used to say, "A man's morality dictates his philosophy." I have found it to be true time and time again.

Thanks for coming to visit my blog. I was glad to 'find' you too. I love the classics and that BBC Pride and Prejudice is wonderful. Colin Firth is Mr. Darcy, certainly, and David Bamber IS Mr. Collins! My mother, sister and I used to be able to recite that entire movie! I hope you'll enjoy the new S and S. It's very close to the book. Let me know what you think of it when you've seen it.
Talk to you later,
