sorry - I explained getchka in my first post on this topic - it is toasted buckwheat. Russians boil or steam it for a few minutes, add salt and eat. or at least, that is how my husband learned to eat it.
I think it is awful, but he likes it with some fruit. I have since discovered that buckwheat is great for dieters because it takes less to give you that "full feeling". so 1/4 cup and some fruit keeps him good until lunch. I also theorize that it will make a great grain for my emergency food storage, more filling and less space.
