food eaten around here in a week, part 2

okay, here it is for last night and today.  guess at the end of the week, I could gather all this together and put it on my table with my family and take a picture.  or I could tally the current cost of all this and figure out how much money we eat in a week.  that would be interesting.  because I buy stuff when it is on sale and store it, I really have no idea what my weekly grocery cost is.  and I factor other things into my "grocery" budget, such as diapers, cleaners, toiletries and food storage (like whole wheat and 6-gal buckets of beans, etc.)  and my turkey broth is free - it is the bones people would throw away if not for me taking it, a few veggies, but mostly the peels and ends of veggies I have used over the year, again, stuff most people would throw away.  it costs me energy to have the stove going for 5 days straight, and the canning seals, but really, that is not much for such yummy goodnesses....  and how do I add that to my tally?

anyway, without further adu, here is the list:

Dinner last night:
broccoli soup – 2 carrots, 2 celery stalks, 2 pots, 4 garlic cloves, 3 lbs broccoli, 2 quarts turkey broth, 1t basil, 2 c cream, ¾ c dry milk, 1.5 lbs chedder cheese (although this recipe will actually give us FOUR meals)
foccacia – 2.5 c wwflour, 1 T yeast, ¼c EVOO, 1t salt, kosher salt, garlic,
one package saltine crackers

Breakfast:
2 bowls wheat chex w/ milk, 2 bowls cheerios w/ OJ, 2 pieces of toast w/ butter, one 6-oz yogart, 1 c OJ, ½ c milk

snacks: 4 sweet granola bars, 2 clementines, one ghiredelli caramel square, 3 snack packs from snack cupboard
lunch: four bowls of broccoli soup (from last night) and left over foccacia; one bowl leftover chili (from Sat) and some chedder cheese

dinner: homemade pizza crust (some flour, yeast, oil, salt), leftover turkey from broth-ing, 1 can olives, 3 c mixed "pizza" cheese from Costco, 1 small can pineapple, a can of tomato paste and a can of chopped tomatoes, oh, and various spices and herbs, both homegrown and store bought.  Oh, and the kids ate some applesauce after dinner, maybe a total of 2 cups?

I have thought of doing the same things after reading the blog you mentioned earlier. I don't know how to figure it since I have had some of the food in the freezer and in the pantry etc. It was an eye opener though for me to see all the food on the American's table (and notice alot of it is junk food).

God's Blessings,
Amy Jo

Thank you for checking out my blog and the entry about food and budgeting...that was also a real eye-opener for me...I will be sitting down in the next few days and seriously readjusting everything I purchase and charting my purchases.

I love the sound of your broccoli soup....

Blessings,

Connie

I shot over to connie's site, and I have seen this visual lay out in the Time magazine.......
Here's my take on it:
99% of the media is controlled by people who want to make you 'feel guilty' for your abundance.
These pictures are taken as part of mental manipulation. To make you "feel" gluttonous. Make you feel "bad".

Don't!

How about looking at it like this:
God has abundantly blessed us in the United States of America, so that we may serve other countries in need.
Let's grab some stats showing how many BILLIONS (that is with a B) of pounds of food we send to different countries EVERY YEAR.
Let's look at WHO is first to help a country when a Natural Disaster happens?
Let's look at WHO is first to come to financial aid?
And WHO sends the most people into God-forsaken places, to provide FREE medicine, dental, and so on....

UM, THAT WOULD BE THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!!

God has blessed us, Americans, abundantly. So that we would be fully equipped to do His Will.
2 Corinthians 9:11 (interesting number for Americans)
YOU will be made rich in every way so that you can be GENEROUS on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in Thanksgiving to God.

This is one of MANY Scriptures that talks about equipping.

So if God is equipping us, then it is Good.
What *we* chose to do with this equipping is between God and us. If we are neglectful, He will deal with us!!

Don't let 'man' make you feel bad because God has blessed you!!
