grandma update

My grandma died about 3pm today.  I am glad.  I am so glad - I can only imagine the reunion on the other side!  And she is no longer suffering from old age and blindness and hearing loss and inability to take herself to the bathroom and frustration at her lack of abilities.  This is a woman who grew up on a farm in Idaho 100 years ago - she has been working all her life, taking care of herself and others since she was a little girl until about 5 years ago.  that is a hard habit to break, a hard independence to let go and let others do for you.   It seems so strange that she will not be around, truth to tell, sometimes it felt like she was never going to pass on.  Not that we wanted her to, but she weathered so much and so well, that it felt like she would always be here.
I helped dd3 prepare a lesson for our Family Home Evening tonight about death and what happens to us and where we go and how to honor grandma's memory.  I think that will help.  this is the first death for my kids, the first where the person was a regular fixture in their lives.  Grandma loved babies, but she did not have the strength to hold them when they got wiggly, so we would always swaddle the newborn babies tight and place them on a boppy on her lap, and the two of them would look at each other and commune some how silently, and then they would both fall asleep.  It was the only time Grandma would let us turn off her perpetually LOUD tv that she could neither see nor hear anyway.  and she would hold the babies for hours that way.  Grandma's lap was my babies' favorite place to sleep (except in my arms).
I am so glad she is gone from this life, so happy for her.
oh, and we found the song.  I ordered the CD today, it will arrive at mom's tomorrow.  and we will all listen to it and remember Grandma.....

I am so sorry for the loss of your Grandmother. My mother died earlier this year in March and my father last October, so I can understand loss. I felt the same way when mom died though. She was in so much discomfort and missed dad so much. When she died I knew they were meeting up there in heaven. We had a slideshow of pictures at both of their funerals, but with mom's we added a picture with words at the bottom. It was a picture of mom and dad taken at a photography studio just a few years prior and at the bottom, the words simply said "Together again..........in heaven!"

I miss them as you miss your Grandmother....but it is a comforting thought to know that they are in a much better place!!!

God's Blessings on you this Christmas Holiday!

Hallelujah! to be absent from the body is to be with the Lord. I know she is smiling and full of unspeakable Joy as she is renewed to do all those things the earthly body stopped doing. Who knows she could be singing and laughing so loud that you may hear her one day. Hee hee! God's love and blessings surround her as she is held in Father's arms. God's riches and best be yours, rilda
