My grandma died about 3pm today. I am glad. I am so glad - I can only imagine the reunion on the other side! And she is no longer suffering from old age and blindness and hearing loss and inability to take herself to the bathroom and frustration at her lack of abilities. This is a woman who grew up on a farm in Idaho 100 years ago - she has been working all her life, taking care of herself and others since she was a little girl until about 5 years ago. that is a hard habit to break, a hard independence to let go and let others do for you. It seems so strange that she will not be around, truth to tell, sometimes it felt like she was never going to pass on. Not that we wanted her to, but she weathered so much and so well, that it felt like she would always be here.I helped dd3 prepare a lesson for our Family Home Evening tonight about death and what happens to us and where we go and how to honor grandma's memory. I think that will help. this is the first death for my kids, the first where the person was a regular fixture in their lives. Grandma loved babies, but she did not have the strength to hold them when they got wiggly, so we would always swaddle the newborn babies tight and place them on a boppy on her lap, and the two of them would look at each other and commune some how silently, and then they would both fall asleep. It was the only time Grandma would let us turn off her perpetually LOUD tv that she could neither see nor hear anyway. and she would hold the babies for hours that way. Grandma's lap was my babies' favorite place to sleep (except in my arms). I am so glad she is gone from this life, so happy for her. oh, and we found the song. I ordered the CD today, it will arrive at mom's tomorrow. and we will all listen to it and remember Grandma..... Leave a Comment { Last Page } { Page 47 of 206 } { Next Page } |
