scene setup: dh taught ds5 "Bug" how to make paper cups out of a sheet of paper about 6 weeks ago, and we have been deluged with paper cups made out of EVERYTHING and they are all over the house.Bug has the part of Tiny Tim in our homeschool production. so yesterday we were at rehearsal, hosted by a local Baptist church, which has a nursery filled with toys for the younger siblings of the cast. I was visiting with other moms in the nursery when Bug comes running in. "Oh, Bug, are you done? should we go?" "No, I am not done." "Then why are you in here? go back to the rehearsal." at this point I notice 2-3 young teens, about 13-15 also enter the nursery room. "I am going to show these guys how to make a paper cup." and he grabs a piece of paper from the stack left for the littles to color. And then I watched as these teens watched Bug make a paper cup and instruct them how to do so as well. about half an hour later (did you know that Tiny Tim doesn't do much in the play?) I noticed these same teens and Bug (on a stool) in front of a whiteboard, all drawing, and these teens totally accepting 5-yo Bug as a companion. yup, my son is NOT being socialized. not if that means his only friends are other 5 year olds.
