As a kid, summer ended when school started, with a few fits, like Labor Day and the odd family reunion in the early part of September, but in general, the start of school meant the end of summer. and it was a sad thing. in college, the end of summer was a good thing - I could return to the lush green forests of upstate NY and the mind-stimulating business of learning. and there was always that long and beautiful dark-hued rainbow called Fall in the northeast. even now, 10 years after my last pilgramage to the east, the cooler days and later sunrises brings to mind a desire to fly across the country to Aurora and spend time there. Alas, with 3 children and responsibilities - both domestically and financially - have turned that desire into a thing that must be put on hold for a few years yet. but soon, I will return to the northeast in September and stay for a month or two! but I digress....well, in this stage of my life, summer ended yesterday. my in-laws came on friday night for a sleep-over and Aug/Sept birthday party (5 celebrants), and it was FUN!!! we roasted dinner over a fire and marshmellows and banana boats in the coals. the kids all planned to sleep outside, but one by one came in (dd3 Bear said she didn't want the wind to blow her away; nephew 4 didn't want the wasps and spiders to get him; nephew 9 said the crickets were keeping him awake, in fact giving him a headache!, and he was worried that the man-eating deer would come and skewer him in his sleep; ds5 Bug followed his cousin) but my dh and his 6 sibs talked and visited late into the night. it was a good time. now if only I could convince them to come up here for another sleepover for our Christmas party - what fun that could be! starting tomorrow, we will be starting normal life again, whatever that is. getting back into the swing of things, the devotional that has been happening in fits for the past month because of travelling and busying and stuff; the school days which will be daily again, and the cooking and baking and yummying of turning on the stove and oven - does it still work after not having been turned on for 4 months? hmmm.... and I have tomatoes to can - I think I will V-8 them tomorrow, and peaches to buy and bottle in their juices. lots of good things happening around here, and the best part - I am going to be HERE to do them. Life is good, and I am Home. Leave a Comment { Last Page } { Page 72 of 206 } { Next Page } |
