warning: harry potter fan post here
okay, I know this is a controversial topic around here. and I am warning you now, that if you do not read or like Harry Potter, avoid this post. I am a fan. I like the books. and I am not going to go into the theology of the topic. If you think I am paving my road to hell with each volume, well, I do NOT want to hear it. It goes back to some of the stuff that has gone on before. If you don't like a topic, don't read the post. It is not necessary to leave rude anonymous comments. I will erase them. If your comment is polite, even if you disagree, chances are I will leave it up. Last chance to close this window. I am starting my predictions for book 7...
If you like the books and are also avidly awaiting Saturday night, fell free to tell me how my theories are wrong, or that they are the most brilliant to date!
okay: the hot topic - Snape, friend or foe. my vote is friend.
the fact that Dumbledore trusted him, believed him to be a good guy
Snape makes no secret of the fact that he hates Harry. If he were a truly bad guy, he would be trying to disguise that, both at school and in Order of the Phoenix meetings. But, he is human, and has a very human reason for disliking Harry: James and Sirius. Not cuz he destroyed Voldemort.
Contrary to what he tells Bellatrix in chapter 1 of HBP, when questioned about Quirrell, he DID know that Quirrell was looking for the Sorcerer's stone for Voldemort.
The fact that at the end of HBP, Snape only lazily fought Harry. It wasn't until Harry called him a coward that he got mad and started to actually fight back. I think Dumbledore used occulemancy to tell Snape to use the Avada Kadavra on him. D knew he was dying, and this way, he could keep Snape as a spy in the Death Eaters, after all, he would have proved his loyalty to them by killing the great Dumbledore. But I also think he told Snape what exactly he and Harry had been doing that night so that when Snape comes back to the order, he will be able to convince Harry he had been acting on D's orders. Since no one but Harry, Ron, and Hermione know, it will work.
Or, my other theory is that even Snape does not know on which side he is! And it will be in the final scene that he makes a choice, and that side will win.
I think Harry will go back to Hogwarts, if only as a place out of which to stage his continuing search for the horcruxes.
RAB = Regalus A. Black
I think it likely that one of the Weasely's will die. So far they have escaped all the damage, and that is EXTREMELY fortunate since there are nine of them, all in the Order (except Percy, although he is not exactly on LV's side either). I think it will be too much to hope that it is Percy, so I do not think it will be him. My bet is either Charlie or Mr. or Mrs. Weasely. It won't be Bill, after all he is newly married; it won't be Percy – he needs to be around for the funeral and say that it is their own fault for getting caught up in Dumbledore's schemes; it won't be the twins – she can't kill one without the other, and we need those guys for comic relief; it will NOT be Ron or Ginny – too important to Harry.
Anyway, those are my thoughts. I need to get back to reading book six so I am caught up by Monday when I get my book. I am getting it from the library. They are ordering some 600+ copies, and there are over 2000 holds. I am around number 450.

I am on the fence with Snape. I change my mind about him every other chapter LOL.
I know that there are two "main" characters that will die (according to JKR interviews). But who? I'm thinking one might be Mr. or Mrs. Weasley. Will Neville die avenging his parents? Or possibly Harry will die because JKR wants to finish this once and for all.
Draco is cowardly and cruel, but where do his loyalties lie? My bet is his own neck, so I can see him switching allegience to the good side for that reason. Or switching for his Mum, if she is harmed in anyway.
Ships...I don't want to even go there. I don't consider them essential to Canon at all. I have my own preference and it is impossible, so I'm not really invested KWIM?
I am only in book 5 for the reread. I remember the least about books 5 & 6. So I suspect I will need to hit some websites Thursday & Friday to remind me about the crucial facts of those two books. I haven't seen the 5th movie yet. I am hesitant to take the whole brood due to it's PG-13 status. I might check on of the parental movie review sites and see it later this week.
I plan to grab the book at a grocery store. I've decided to avoid the book parties, the long wait in line/the store, and the spoilers being shouted out in parking lots. I may even wait until 6AM and grab it without any threat of crowds. It's hard to believe that this is the last big anticipation for a new HP book

I read the HP series and love it. Yes, I am a Christian, and yes, witchcraft/wizardry is wrong, but I just love the books. They haven't taught me any evilness, if that makes sense, and my boys haven't felt that either, and they can sense if there is evilness about something (if that too makes sense). My parents are both ministers, and they enjoy the books, and haven't truly felt any bad thoughts about them. And I know if they ever did, they would make sure to tell me, and not to let my boys read the books.
The HP series has really encouraged kids to read, which I think is very important for children to do - read, instead of watching tv all the time, or playing video games, or being on the computer.
I'm currently reading the 6th book, and can't wait til I can get the next book. It's $30 here, but I hope to find it a little less. I might wait until all the excitement as settled down, as it's going to be crazy the day the book is released.
I'm excited, and it's good to know there are others who are too. I hate that this will be the last book in the series. Will be very interesting to see what happens. I just hope I don't hear anything about it that will spoil it for me.
Blessings,
Andrea

I just re-read Book 6 last month. I had forgotten a lot. I always re-read the last book before the new one is released. Ok, so, here's my take...
I don't think Snape is good at all. I don't know why Dumbledore trusted him, but I don't see him as a good guy. Although, he HAD to kill Dumbledore because of the oath-thing he did with Draco's mom. Otherwise, he would have died himself.
I can see Draco siding with Harry, after his reaction when Dumbledore was takling to him. Although, I am sort of inclined to think he may be one that dies...maybe because he hesitates in his service to V?
As for the Weasley's, I think you may be right. I hate to think any of them die, though. :( I just love the Weasley's.
It could still be Neville, too. Or Luna.
But I'm with you, I don't think it will be Harry, Ron, or Hermione. Or even Ginny. I hope...
I love HP!

I am out of the loop because I haven't read the last few books, but hope to catch up next time I'm in the library. And get the newest movie when it comes out in DVD.
I am so glad to see that you are 'brave' enough to say you like HP. So many are so violently against the books and there is absolutely NOTHING of real wizardry/witchcraft in the book ... the spells are just all made up and are mixed up words that sound sort of like Latin. It's so fun!!

I have a friend - actually a pastor, who's spent a LOT Of time pondering this - he has a most excellent blog on his predictions for book 7. http://sword-in-hat.blogspot.com/2007/07/harry-potter-and-order-of-phoenix.html
Basically his premise is that Harry was made into a horcrux and will have to die in order to kill Voldemort - Kind of a both dying at the same time thing.
I wonder, I think he might be but that depends on the ability to make a person a horcrux (it said something about the difficulties with making the snake one somewhere in there). It also depends on whether or not LV could have determined at the last second to make Harry a horcrux - part of it doesn't work out - afterall, his goal was to kill Harry so it would be hard to make him one. I do think that Harry will die whether or not he is a horcrux - I think it's tied into his love for those around him and his need to sacrifice for them. I pre-ordered my books on Amazon (got one for a friend) and used the free shipping so I'll be avoiding blogs until my book comes on Monday probably (b/c they say with the free shipping it might not get there by Sat). Of course, I like happy endings so I'd rather everyone lives happily ever after and Harry and Ginny get back together and have a bunch of kids and Ron and Hermione live next door and have a bunch of kids.
I think Snape is a "good" guy but I kind of like the idea of him being a fence sitter and his final decision being a determining factor.
Because the whole series is about LV and his attempts at returning to power, and Harry wins at the end of every book, it doesn't make sense that he wouldn't be defeated in some way at the end of the 7th book - just how is what we're all waiting for.
I've also heard that some muggle will show magical powers that they didn't know about (a friend thinks it will be Dudley - makes sense). Something about Petunia being important in this book too.
Better go pretend to do something today - I could talk about HP all day! Can't wait until the book comes! :)
Blessings in Christ
