wanna see something GROSS???? no, he doesn't look so nasty does he? but they are, on average 3 inches long. now have a new look at that! okay, about 2 weeks ago, dd3, Bear, came running into the house "mom! mom! Bug found a scorpian!" now, I do not think we have scorpians here, but I did go out to the garage to look, by which time ds5, Bug, had already squashed it. but since it was without a doubt the UGLIEST insect I had ever seen, not to mention a body length of 2 inches, I decided to take it in for identification. ugh! the extension office said it was a "mormon cricket" and I left the nasty with her. but later, I looked online, and it was not. so this morning while weeding, what did I find, but another nasty, this one only an inch in length, so we caught it and drove into town. this time they had done some research in the meanwhile and told me it was a "Jerusalem Cricket." I checked online, and found that I agreed! she said that the main "bug id" guy had only ever seen 3-4 in his career. I invited him over to our place. I am afraid I have an infestation! ugh! anyway.... I am afraid we have more of these. I am NOT looking forward to finding any full grown ones. it gives me the shivers just thinking 'bout it.
