Emotion class post#3

okay, so my Connecticut Experience brings me to the class last night.  the teacher, whom we will call Mary, asked if there was anything specific we wanted to talk about as we discussed emotions and their effect on our lives.  Last week we touched on how some people boil all emotions down to either Love or Fear.  we talked about fears of inadequacy, unworthiness, and money.  Last night she mentioned that emotions can effect physical health, to which any sufferer of psoriasis can attest!  So I asked about this experience I had in CT, I said that it is still effecting me, my current fears and my psoriasis.  At that point, it became kind of the experience to which we applied everything about which we talked. New Principles:

Life is NOT supposed to be hard. The Lord said “For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:30. We make it Hard by combining the problem with the emotion/feeling.

Here are some more principles on Emotions:

  1. We are double-minded

    1. mind and heart

    2. when head says one thing, and heart another, we follow our heart.

      1. We can give so many facts and information, but people will act according to their feelings.

      2. an example of this is a teenage girl getting ready for a dance: “honey,” says mom, “you look beautiful.” (mind) but her heart says “I look ugly!” the girl believes her heart.

    3. We are not supposed to be double-minded. The Lord wants us whole

  2. We create with feelings and thoughts

    1. whatever we believe WITH FEELING, it will become our reality

  3. There are laws which emotions follow:

    1. Law of Control

      1. We are happy to the exact extent to which we feel we have control

      2. the only thing we can control in our lives is our emotions, how we feel about our experiences. So ask yourself “of which emotion do I not have control?”

    2. Law of the Harvest

      1. We are always right, based on what we believe.

      2. We harvest failure or success based on the seeds we have sown

      3. someone who is always saying “I can never do anything right” doesn't do anything right because they are a)only seeing the wrong things, and, b)self-cycling

    3. Law of Cause and Effect

      1. we often see the effect, but cannot identify the cause

      2. work it backwards: “the effect is that i am in debt up to my eyeballs, but what is the cause?”

  4. PAIN is a warning that something is out of balance

    1. when I read this, it reminded me of the sick man whom Jesus Healed and said “Go thy way and sin no more.” - John 5:1-14; I am not saying that all disease comes from sinning, but from this passage, some disease and pain come from sinning.

    2. Separate the problems of health (symptoms) from the emotion

      1. Let your body remember the origins of emotional pain, so you do not have to do so consciously.

    3. come to a place of peace emotionally – then healing can happen

      1. forgiveness is part of this

      2. sometimes it helps to take the scripture Matthew 18:22 literally and write 490 times “I forgive ------ for ------” being very specific.

    4. being ill is not who we are: not “I am sick today,” but “I am experiencing sickness today.”

      1. we need to BE clear with our feelings so we can DO a lot more

      2. we cannot be DOing clear things if we are not BEing clear

  5. We lodge our emotions in our bodies,

    1. emotions we feel manifest in physical ways

    2. such as a “tension headache” or an older child who is always slumped over, looking at the floor so as not to be noticed

  6. Negative emotions can and DO cause illness

    1. we believe it can be healed, but we cannot dictate the results

    2. we need to say “Thy Will be Done.” Luke 11:2 and leave it in the Hands of the Lord

okay this went a little long again, so I will need to continue this in another post, and how Mary said to help my fear...

I enjoyed your post, some of it I agree with and some I do not.
There are a few comments I would like to make. Firstly, if you are saved then you have the authority (through Jesus) over any evil spirit, just command it to go in Jesus name.
Secondly, we do have choices to make in this life, we can live according to His word and reap the blessings, or we can wallow in our sin which creates an unhealthy person, physically and emotionally, there are many examples of this in scripture, like Proverbs 17:22 A merry heart doeth good like medicine, but a broken spirit drieth the bones.
I am skeptical when people get all intellectual about spiritual things. It seems to me like they try and make it sound like they have all the knowledge and are in control instead of God. Do you know what I mean? It's not supposed to be complicated. Pray and read the Word and ask God to help you.
Anyway just pray for wisdom and measure everything you hear against the Word.
Remember Jesus did not say this life would be easy, he said it would be hard, full of trial and tribulation, but we can also have the joy and peace that comes from God (not from ourselves) to get us through, and our reward at the end is eternal life.
Take care and I will be praying for you!

****** thank you for the prayers. I think the scariest thing about the CT situation, was I did command the spirit to leave, in His Holy name. and it didn't. I'd done that before, effectively, but not that night.
mostly, the notes here are from what she said (although most of the scripture are mine, what I thought of as she was talking.) I do not agree with everything she said, but I don't know about some of it either. I need to pray and ask my Lord about it.
Thanks for your comment and for your prayers.

I like the "I am experiencing sickness" thing, since that's where I'm at today. Reading that actually made me feel better about my day.
