homesteadblogger appreciation challenge

01:34 PM, Friday, March 30, 2007 .. 6 comments .. Link

hey, I was reading the last post from Nancy on the Front Porch.   it led me to remember why I love it here so much.  and I am reminded of a thing we do at my church once a month, we call it testimony meeting, where anyone who wants to can bear testimony of their knowledge and gratitude for the Gospel.  it always seems that although you share to help others, the person who really feels the gratitude is yourself.  and I always come away with a better feeling about the trials and challenges in my life.  so, here is a request and a challenge for you all in this turbulent time of people wanting to leave or feeling offended.  Give us a blog about why you love it here.  maybe a short list of things you have been encouraged to try or do or make or change in your life.

Why I appreciate Homesteadblogger!
I have always wanted to be self sufficient and have chickens, a garden, a goat and some bees.  I have wanted to make soap for nigh 10 years.  I like the idea of growing my own grains and baking my own baked goods.  and I have made bread in the past and had a garden, but I felt like I was doing it on my own.  that I was a lonely crazy soul in a world of consume consume consume.  My garden was a trial each year, trying something new and hoping it worked.  there seems to an abundance of tips and books and shows about how to do these things, but it was too much (kind of like a home school convention to a questioning mom - where do you start?!?!?).
then I found homesteadblogger, not quite a year ago.  I feel, looking back, that I was led here in a timely manner.  I learned about chickens, what kinds, what to do with them, how to convince my husband (ok, still working on that one!).  I have learned a lot about gardening from people who actually garden to feed their families!!!!  I have learned about goats and love looking at pictures and learning about bees.
I have greatly appreciated the posts on menu planning and grocery shopping and the encouragement to loose weight.  I am so in debt to Ashley for her soap-making hints.  See, I am a learner that learns best from a mentor (my husband is all book), and I want someone around to help when I am doing something new and scary and extremely different from anything I have done before.  this site has provided that.
and, it has provided me with some spiritual food that I need on my path Home to my Savior.  I appreciate the sharing of beliefs from women here who, although very different in many many cases, have given me food for thought and helped me grow in that way as well.
and, after I had learned from you all for a few months, the Lord gave me my Homestead.  and now I am really doing it, thanks so much to all of you!

now, I want to hear why you are appreciative of this site.  maybe if we all share this, we can remember what we do have in common and how much we all still have to learn from each other!

I too, have learned more from here than I could have from anywhere else. And I plan to continue learning, and to help others learn.

I'm very grateful for homesteadblogger, too. And yes, leeks are $2 a pound here, which comes out to about $6 for three leeks here. I just can't resist them, though, and have gotten used to paying for fresh vegetables. That's one reason why I am planting such a large garden--I want the fresh vegetables and fruits without the cost! Thanks for visiting my blog!

Wonderful idea
