music tag

well, zoggypdx has initiated a topic near to my heart.  Music.  I love music.  music to me has but one purpose: DANCE!!! family legend says that at one year of age, I would not let go of my grandpa's hands cuz I wanted to dance dance dance.  I love anything I can dance to.  I met my dh at a dance (he was hiding behind a couch trying to get away from the music - ah, but then why was he there, you ask, if he didn't like the music or the dancing?... he was on the dance committee at the church and as such was required to be there.)
I love the Beach boys, I love Swing, I love Abba and some other Disco, and the music of the early 90's - NKOTB (yes, I did, and do, and I will admit it, but not enough to explain what that is if you do not already know), MC Hammer, Erasure... I grew up with the old country "I was Country, when country wasn't co-ool" Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, Alabama, Oak Ridge Boys, Johnny Cash - but I had to listen to this in secret - my mother was anti-country.  I don't know why but she really really really dislikes country, especially Old Country, so when I discovered it at age 10, she threw up her hands and I had to listen to it hidden away in my room.  lol.
I took piano as a kid, and when I was 10, started the flute, which I played through jr high and picked up again in college occasionally.  I was never any good at it, probably my own fault, but I do like the sound of a flute.  Of course this means that when I sit down to the piano, I can sight read the treble clef of the music without even thinking about it, but the bass hand is a struggle.  it takes FOREVER to pick out a measure or two, as I have to disect it note by note and actually count out the lines to figure the note.
I sang in high school.  I was blessed to have a wonderful teacher who had award winning choirs every year.  his method was not to have the best of the best only, but he took dedicated students and taught them and expected greatness.  he was in charge of the 23rd army gaurd band and expected military attendance and promptness from his students.  and that more than any thing else, I think, is what made his choirs great.  and he taught us.  he could take someone with no music experience and we learned.  I sang 2nd soprano, and loved it.  I still love to sing.
I always have music going around here.  dh got me an ipod for valentines day last year, and I like to have it playing all the time.  Mostly these days I have instramental hymns or childrens church songs playing, which more than anything else brings the Spirit of God into our house.  I also like classical - my favorite is the William Tell overture, and one day, I will play that flute solo (or so I tell myself - it has 1/32 notes!!!!) in the middle.
and I love musicals.  they make me laugh.  my favorite is Paint Your Wagon.  and, much to my husband's dismay, my kids sing a number of songs from it.  luckily, they have no idea why the singers are excited about a "Coach Comin' In!"
but mostly I judge music by two things: can I sing it? and can I dance to it?

Bug, 5 and Bear, 3 have each taken piano lessons through Sazuki, and Bear initiated her lessons by insisting, at 15 months, a turn at the piano while at lessons.  we haven't found a teacher here yet, but I cannot wait to get back into that.  both kids are always going to the piano and "playing" beautiful songs for us.

ps - Raymond - can asparagus in a diaper be worse than avocado?  cuz she loves that and it was interesting!

Didn't even mention dance in my post. I love dance too. Not so good at it, but I try, and I have a good time doing it.

I don't know about the avocado. I do know asparagus can be bad, though LOL.

Peace,

Raymond
