homestead quiz

1.Do you pasturize your milk?

   when I get my goat?  never!!!  until, then, alas, i buy it at the store

2. Are your hens laying?

  no hens yet.... still trying to convince the dh

3. Do you still use your clothesline in winter?

    jsut bought the house, so I have not used it at all. come spring, tho....

4.When is the last time you left your homestead?

   Sunday for church

5.How many dairy animals do you have?

    none.  YET ( that will come after I convince the dh of hens )

6.Laundry soap-homemade or store bought?

    when I run out of the current stock of store bought, I will give homemade a go!

7.How much canning did you do this year?

  well, I bottled my sugar-free raspberry jam, and do the peaches I bought and my SIL canned for me cuz I went into labor count?

8.What type of meat is in your winter store? Home grown or store bought?

    I buy b-s-less chicken breasts on sale and rump roasts when they are on sale, and store them in my freezer, so that is all year round

9.Plumbing- outdoor or indoor?

    Indoor

10.How often do you tend to the animals each day?

     I feed the children 3 meals and 2 snacks.

11.Chickens-free range or chicken house?

     I want free range, but there is a fox on the hill.....

12.Chickens- butcher yourself or have it done?

      dh says we will not have meat chickens.  i will wait till we have hens and see how I do, then give him the FDA approvals for all the crazy meat in the stores

 13.How big was your garden this year? 

      it was kinda big, but only the tomatos did well.

14.How many acres is your homestead?

      almost 12

15.Do you rise with the chickens?

    I get up at 6....

16.Last time you made a new quilt?

     I actually finished an afghan about 6 years ago....  4 in fact.

17.Last time you did any sewing?

     lets see.... i hemmed a long rectangle for a "baby sling" for dd2's dolls

18.How many wild berries did you pick this summer?

     none, but we did FINALLY jam the huckleberries we picked 2 years ago!

19.What kind of jelly or jam did you make this year?

     mom made the huckleberry and I made sugarless raspberry

20.What wild animals did you kill this year(for food)?

     are you kidding?  my dh wouldn't touch it!

21.Washing laundry- by hand or machine?

      Machine

22.Is using the computer a waste of time for you?

     yeah. 

23.Most hated chore on your homestead?

     bathrooms

24. Favorite chore on your homestead?

     sweeping

25.How do you plow your garden?

   in the past, my dad tilled it.  i used a shovel for my strawberry and raspberry patches.  and I am planning a SFG  for here - never needs to be plowed

26.How often do you hoe your garden?

    does this mean weed?  once a week - it was at my mom's house

27.Do wild animals raid your garden?

     we had a mole

28.Favorite homestead pastime?

    crochet - until the carpel tunnel hit

29.Do you like being a homesteader?

    Yes, I cannot wait to be more self-sufficient

30.When was the last time you purchase any food item from outside of your homestead?

   Saturday

31.How close is your nearest neighbor?

     I can see the house, but not the driveways

32. What color is your barn?

      No barn

33.How many of your animals are bred at this time?

     no animals

34.What were the last three animal births on your homestead?

      see above

35.How much TV do you watch at your homestead?

      we only watch dvds...

36.Can you make good bread from scratch?

       Oh yes... in fact, i am famous from Milan to Aukland for my bread

37.Are you afraid to go  outside at night?

      yes, but I am recovering from that

38. How do you define homesteader?

       Someone who lives a simple life, growing their own food, raising their own animals.

39.Were you raised in the city or country?

    city.... always dreamed of the country

Okay, I like this post!
I miss chickens, as in laying hens ...a lot! As far as meat chickens go, I wish I lived nearby. I would let you raise the chickens and then I'd "package" them and we could split them! Still trying to talk my mom into it for this year - we did that a few years ago.
