moving and packing

okay, here is our homestead update.  we got the house we wanted.  YEAH!!!!  he took our offer, and I guess is starting the process of moving out.  we are not closing until the end of October (we were not sure when this baby would come, so we built a few extra weeks into the offer so that we were not having to sign while I was post-partum...)  we could probably close earlier, but I am okay with this time schedule at the moment.  next spring I am going to build a chicken coop (HELP!) and get me a few layers.  I am so excited!
I am working on packing this house.  it goes slowly - new baby, 4-yr old son - with LOTS of energy, and being very sensitive, rather jealous of the new baby, although I must say, he is really good with her and loves her to pieces - and a 2-yr daughter.  But most of the books are packed - 16 boxes sitting on the fireplace, and another 6 boxes waiting to be filled (these are the business filing boxes, legal size on one dimension, and letter on the other.  We picked these boxes for books cuz they are small and books are heavy, so we cannot over-weigh the boxes.  I have 3 boxes of toys packed, and another 2 boxes to go, and that is leaving out the legos, train set, dress-up box, musical instruments (plastic toys) and a dozen children's books.  I packed the art and school supplies (not doing it anyway these days with the baby and the move....)  I need to get the right size boxes for the clothes - most of the kids stuff that they are either too small or too big for is in vacuum bags, so I want boxes big enough to just throw those in.  I am also organizing everything as I go along - lots of garbage, lots of stuff to the second-hand stores.  I thought of freecycle, but that is a lot of energy and I am just not interested.  I am thinking to take the children's stuff to a place called kid-to-kid, where they will buy this stuff and give me in-store credit.  I don't necessarily like to shop there - for the same price, I can go to Dillards or Kohl's on their 75% off sales and get NEW clothing, but it would give me some "free" clothes, maybe some long pants for dd2 who has no pants for the winter!
Our realtor wants to put the house on the market as-is, and I think it is a mess.  I mean, it isn't in horrid shape, but it has a lot of little things missing to make a good sell: paint chips, peeling wallpaper (thank you Bug!), loose door handles, etc.  things you live with, meaning to fix "one of these days"  but would never buy....
and then there is baby... she is beautiful.  she has black hair like her sibs did, and I cannot wait to see what hers does when it falls out; ds4 has blond curls - I hated cutting it, but at 18 months, my mom started to braid it, and I had to cut it...  dd2 has straight lt-brown hair, currently short (again, thank you Bug) with sun-streaked blond highlights.  but, dh has black hair, so there is a possibility hers will stay black.... or even go red - heaven knows we both have lots of red on both sides....  She makes me crazy though, when she spits up after eating - she doesn't just spit and run out of her mouth... no, she projects it a good 6-10 inches.  no one is safe  lol
anyway, back to packing.... I think I will do board games next.

Congratulations!!

I'm looking forward to hearing about the chicken coop. I'm building one (on wheels) in the spring too. :)

How exciting!!! I am so happy for you guys. Something told me you were going to find your dream home! :) I hope the packing goes okay.

Wow, sounds like you have a lot of possible variety when it comes to hair in your family. How neat! Me and Jay both have a blond sibling and a nearly black haired sibling. So we have the potential for all the shade inbetween! Right now, I think Samuel is going blond. I like to tease Jay that Samuel has 23 of my genes, even if they are all hidden! :P

Take care!

Hello "friend"!

Your blog is great! I have been catching up since you left that nice comment on our blog.(Thanks for the website link) We would be honored to be on your friend list and I am going to add you to ours. We will be very interested in following your adventures at your new homestead. It sounds like we have much in common. I hope you will be able to remain TV free at your new place. (I think you mentioned that in a different post) We have been blessed by not being enslaved by TV and I do not know how people get anything done with the TV controlling their lives! We also have chickens and strawberries and are learning new things about them. Right now the chickens are not laying and I'm not sure why. (Sounds like a future post for me). Thanks again and may God bless your new home and help you with the moving!

Hahaha!

Lol, my blog was on the screen last night and Jay read likes to read my comments sometimes. I heard him laughing and asked him what it was . . . he said he was reading my comments. I didn't see yours until this morning! I guess he read your "Don't pet the fish" comment. It made us both laugh!
Thanks for the tip!
