why do I have independent and determined children?

I have been told (by many) it is the curse of "may you have children just like you"

we - my mom, dh, and I - have been trying to get the kids to crawl out the doggy door at grandma's house for, well, 4 years.  that would save on cool air, mom getting up every 3 seconds because "I want to go out." "I want to come in."  "Out now." (you know the drill)....  no go.  other kids come over ONE time, and they figure out the doggy door trick.  but not mine, who consider grandma's a second home.  So today we are over weeding the garden, and as usual, I lock the door to the house so that I can keep an eye on them.  My great-grandmother (108 yrs old) lives with my mom, and has a lot of medications (one of which Bear managed to eat about a year ago.  luckily it was a water pill, so there was no panic-ing after we talked to Poison Control, but the possibility has cautioned us) and a lot of candy for little children.  Well, dd2 "Bear" was playing happily outside on the deck and on the grass while Bug and I weeded the garden.  Then she found the water gun, and insisted that it be filled up.  "not right now," I called.  A few minutes later I look back to the house and she was waving to me from the inside  window, looking pleased as can be.
ya know, I am glad she is independent and clever and can solve problems, but really!  I mean, we encourage our kids to find their own solutions to problems: "Oh dear!  what are you going to do about that ball being across the street when you can't chase it?" and help them come up with various solutions, but...
the look on her face.  and her pride in her accomplishment.  how can you be mad at that?!

Doggy door...what a clever idea. Independence, can't live with it, can't live without it. LOL!

I appreciate the clothing tip for my "tall girl". Clothing companies have been much better in the last few years about making clothes for taller women and teens, so shopping has become easier for her. My other child, a 5 year old boy, has a will of iron. It takes both his dad and me to stand strong many times. Whew! But I think how icky he would be if we didn't! Blessings to you.....................Denise (prairiemom)

Hi!

I'm not sure who it would be worse to "raise" me or J! Both of us have very independant and stubborn streaks. J doesn't like rules, AT ALL, so what was he like as a little boy? Very obedient, I'm sure! (yeah, right!) :P

I hope you and yours are doing well!

It's a good thing your children don't know mine... That could be quite the combination. Mine are great instigators at "life learning" of the most inconvenient sorts.

Your baby banner says 37 days to go.... That's when it seems long, eh? But it sounds like you're so busy you'll be labouring before you know it. (Hint: inflatable pool filled with water warm as you can stand it. Takes the pain away till transition. I seriously thought my labour had stopped - till I got out to go to the bathroom.)

I love your soapmaking story! Can you post some technical details? I would really like to learn, but other than lye and lard, not sure where to start.

Oh, yeah - one of my friends has been having terrible problems with her kids' heads - she keeps them well-moisturized with olive oil and it's clearing things up. Don't know if it works for psoriasis as well....?
