what a week for learning some lessons

this has been a week of growing and learning for me.  I have a friend who has been coming over to help me get my house in order.  which she is doing - if only by giving me the impetus to get off my behind and get to work.  we school the kids together, she cleans up our messes and then we get some home stuff done, ya know, like fixing cupboards that have been broken for ages (we'll get to that soon), organizing my kitchen and *gasp* tossing out what doesn't work.  she signed me up for freecycle so I can get rid of my junk, and she is such a boon to me.  she is helping me with what I need, and I am grateful I can help her with what she needs: some extra money for groceries.  I feel awful saying that I pay a friend to come over and help me with my shortcomings (which is what she is doing) because that implies she wouldn't do it out of friendship.  She would.  We are fortunate to have enough financially that we can help her and her family in return.  she is teaching me soooo much!
On Thursday, due to a pregnancy-induced tummy-upset, lack-of-sleep, and headache, I was Grumpy.  After getting after my ds4 three times while we were sorting laundry, he (imitating me) sent to my bed with a pointed finger and a "don't come back until you are not Grumpy!  I will sort the laundry."  I obeyed, partly to see what he would do, and mostly because I wanted nothing more than my bed at that moment.  He did it.  He actually sorted the laundry - only for about 3 minutes before he became frustrated with it, but those three minutes cured me off my tummyache, headache, fatigue and grumpiness.  What a boy I have.  We finished the laundry together with smiles and laughs and then went to the park.
Last night we went over to our church building to clean it in preparation for Sunday services.  not a whole lot to do: vacuum all the rooms, mop the bathroom floors and window clean the doors.  oh, and clean chalkboards where appropriate.  We have been asked to do this for three months, and we agreed.  As I was vacuuming (luckily, there are industrial size machines for this!), I watched my children play behind the podium, pretending to give talks on Jesus.  It was amazing to hear what they said, at only 2 and 4 yrs of age.  They helped where they could, although I really wanna know: why, when we are anywhere, Bug insists on rearranging the chairs.  they are never too heavy or too awkward at the photography place, or the doctors offices or the piano teacher's... but last night, he could not move a single chair out of the way of the vacuum?  I learned some patience last night too.
Yesterday, my mom's neighborhood had a children's parade and carnival.  All the kids decorated their bikes and rode around the block and up to the church where there was homemade ice cream (the kids made theirs in plastic ziplocs: the ice cream double bagged and them added to a gallon-size with ice and salt.  cool!) and games and even pony rides.  My sweet 2-yr old Bear loved it.  She went three times, and wanted to go again.  she has been talking about it non-stop all day.  I told my dh that it looks like we need to add another animal to our homestead wishlist.  he laughed.
Oh, and my mom is off to Tahiti today for 5 weeks.  Her sister's family does carpentry for LDS temples, and they are there now.  They have some 27 workers, and they needed another cook.  so mom was asked and is so excited.  she only found out on Thursday, so this is still kind of surprising for us.

Glad you stopped by today. I can imagine how hot it is in Utah in the summertime!. When I was expecting our daughter, born July 8, 1988, my husband looked at my swollen ankles as he was irrigating our back yard and said, "Get in!" I still remember how refreshing it was. I hope you can find a cool spot and get lots of rest.................Denise

You have a good friend. I would love to help a friend of mine with her home . . . but I fear asking and making her feel bad. :( I'm a compulsive cleaner! On weekends, things pile up b/c I'm enjoying my husband but during the week I like things spic & span. I also fear intimadating friends with how clean I keep things, but it's just me! I remember when I was little, my mom used to call moms that had kids and had a clean house "unreal" or "supermoms" and other things like that. Now I find I've become one of them!! Enjoy your friend's help. I'm sure she enjoys helping. :)
