growing and learning

Hi.  I am so excited to have found this site!  This is what I want to do and have, so badly... my husband is not a hands-on "fix-it-up chappie" as he likes to say (although he is an excellent programming "fix-it-up chappie"), so I havbe to wait a few years before we can move to my dream homestead.
It struck me how Lisa said you can "homestead" anywhere - even in a suburban/urban home.  That struck a cord, and I realize that I need to be gaining and refining the skills I can while I am here - I may not be able to have chickens, a goat, and bees right now, but I can work on keeping my house in order.
On that note, I would like to share a thought I have had since my son was small.  Jesus said to become like a little child.  And often, we think of that meaning humble, meek, willing to submit to the Father... I would also like to point out that litlle children are incredibly organized.  Hasn't your husband ever tried to put something away (in the wrong place) and your young child has a small temper tantrum because it doesn't go there?  They have an incredible sense of everything being where it belongs.  And I wonder if the Lord doesn't want us to be the same -  well-organized with that sense of rightness in our lives.
Anyway, just some thoughts from a newbee.

Glad to see you aboard. Learn and teach!!! You have much to teach, I am sure.

Alos, ask questions ... you will never learn if you don't.

We all have to start somewhere!

I know when I began, I was living in an upstairs apartment. So we all have to begin somewhere.

Please share with us what you are learning, because I still have a ways to go.

I'm so glad you found my blog! I think your idea of saving onions, carrots, etc. for future broth is just great. It sounds like you already have a homestead heart. I want to encourage you to continue to do what you can with what you have right now. Drop by my blog anytime - I'd love to continue to hear from you.

Lisa
