More Than Rubies Monday--- ARK

Posted in Words of Inspiration and Quiet Times

This weeks "More than Rubies Monday" I do over on my other blog. Being ice bound I can't get over to use my sister's computer to blog , I can't blog on the other site b/c of computer problems but can blog here on Yahoo page. Its a computer thing and very strange. So please have a visit over at  Kris's    page

Heres what Kris is having us do this week and boy is it a good one to. Join in, I'm sure Kris would love to have you and me to : ).

Kris:
[So, this week, please share something that you do to keep the communication open between you and your husband, children, family, friends, etc. How do you keep from nagging them? ... OR ... share an idea for an ARK that we can do during this holiday season to "give" to others. I can't wait to hear what you have to share!]

The Ark Kris is talking about is from the movie Evan Almighty , If you haven't seen it, there was some good messages. One being the ARK, "Act of Random Kindness"

My answer:

Communication is the key to any relationship and the most wanted in the marriage. It seems to be wanted more by the wife then hubbies from what I noticed , through talks with others. Being married 28 years , we still aint there yet : /. But we are getting better.

It has always been more just knowing what we needed before we had to ask. There would be a project my hubby and I had to tackle and each just did their part that they were most qualified to do.

Whoever carried in wood the other open the door. I open the chickens Hen Den up in the mornings and DH would close them up at night. DH would till the garden and I would plant. I would change our babies diapers and DH would hold them when they were all cleaned up : /

We are that rock and bird type of people, I would fly around if it wasn't for DH to hold things down like a rock , I would be flyin all over the place, yet I moved the rock just enough , so we are a balanced team.

Dh would walk around with duct tape around his boots before he'd asked for new ones. He is getting better tho about getting new boots before the tape comes on. When I need something I just go and get it. We're both modest in our clothing and it has never been an issue. Food either, hubby has never been one to come home and expect dinner on the table. If its there great if we have to open up a can of beans that will do to.

So I would say our ARK (Acts of random kindness) is not being demanding to each other. Not taking each other for granted. Hold the ladder, open the door, say I love you and give big hugs.

The need is all around, ARK it up folks. It could be food, clothing, money, visits, a phone call, or just listening to someone in line at the grocery store. You just never know when an ARK will be there. God Is Good.

Thank you Kris

Blessings to All
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays

Being A Women Like That

Posted in Words of Inspiration and Quiet Times

I was going through  and reading blogs the other day and came across this on  Kris's blog

"She's skilled in the crafts of home and hearth, diligent in homemaking.
She's up before dawn, organizing her day.
First thing in the morning, she dresses for work, rolls up her sleeves, eager to get started.
She shops around for the best yarns, and enjoys knitting.
She senses the worth of her work, is in no hurry to call it quits for the day.
She keeps an eye on everyone in her household, and keeps them all busy and productive.
Her children respect and bless her; her husband joins in with words of praise.
A good woman is hard to find, and worth far more than diamonds."
(from The Message, parts of Proverbs 31)

Oh how I long to be that type of women of Proverbs, for many years I still try, sometime succeed while other times I fail.   Beautiful words to live by and to share with others. And to make it  an important part of your life.

Kris has started something that you might be interested in  called  Rubies Monday , and like the word states it is a *gem*.

I did joined and thought about it for awhile that maybe I am a tad to old for the group, being a grandmother and not a "stay at home mom"  with our empty nest , maybe the group was geared for more the younger moms and families.  My reason for joining was to share with my DD who is a SAHM and home schools.  She doesn't have a good working PC and her hands are full with 4 that are 5 yrs and younger.

Kris's reply :

Linda, I hope you will join us as I'm sure we can all learn from you! Just answer this week's questions regarding your schedule when you had kids. It always helps to have some Titus 2 women around :-) .

My heart did a leap, being a Titus 2 women was the nicest  words to be called, so let me share what that title is all about.

 Titus 2    (King James Version)

1But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine:

2That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience.

3The aged women likewise, that they be in behavior as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;

4That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,

5To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

6Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded.

7In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity,

8Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.

9Exhort servants to be obedient unto their own masters, and to please them well in all things; not answering again;

10Not purloining, but shewing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things.

11For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,

12Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

13Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;

14Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

15These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.

 Thank You very much Kris

So heres the link button to come and join and the first questions about me that Kris wanted the group to share.   Check it out , make Proverbes 31 your goal as wife  and mother  to the people you love and care about.  Then as you age as the  beautiful person  God intended for you to be, claim the Titus 2 women in your life.

Give some general info about your family: # of kids and ages (if you feel comfortable giving that info out), # of years as a SAHM, does your husband work at home or outside the home?

My DH and I have been married 28 yrs this coming Saturday, we have 3 kids , 26,25 , and 22. , 4 grand babies.    We are empty nesters , but love it when the family comes to visit.

I was a stay at home mom, worked out of my home with a family business, still do.  I did have to go in a couple of times a week to meet clients , but my Mom or DH,  would care for the kids on those's days.   I did have a friend that would watch the kids for about a year on the days family could not, but I sure was glad to get back home.  I missed them so even for half a day.

DH works away from home, but I have plenty of honeydo projects, he loves going to work ,lol

 - Do you work in or outside of the home? If so, how many hours per week and what is your schedule like?

I have a workshop but I do go in town/city to meet clients.  At home I pretty much can call my own time, work and take breaks , check the animals , walk on the trails, garden, play with the grandkids.  I'm busy doing many things, I love it.

- What helps you get through your week? Do you use a planner or "to-do" list? Are you organized or do you fly by the seat of your pants?

I like to work under pressure, I tend to get a lot of things done at that time.  I would like to keep a list but never have the time to sit down and do one.  Oh that is just an excuss.  I would like to be organized and heading that way, but most the time I wing it and just get things done.

 - Do your children help around the house? Chores? Cooking? If they don't do much, do you wish they did more?

When the kids were home they did help out but school ativites really kept them busy with homework and all the other things they got into, church, sports ,band, etc.    It didn't hurt them because the end result is what tells the tale, they are all responsible and do a really better job then I did/do.

What do you want to do better? What area of your life is a stumbling block for you? Would you like prayer for a specific thing this week?

I want to better organized , taking care of what I have been Blessed with.   Letting go of material things that I have not used and probably will not use.   Maybe in others hands it will be put to use.   One can't do it all , so this will go with my cleaning things up and organizing.   I have prayed on this and I see it happening.

A prayer this week.  I would ask that all my friends here that read this and love ones here at home have the most Joyous Holiday, that things slow down and that we take it all in and be Blessed.

Science vs God

Posted in Words of Inspiration and Quiet Times

In the Class Room

Subject: Science vs God

This is a very thought provoking question and answer session regarding science vs. faith.

Science vs. God

"Let me explain the problem science has with Jesus Christ." The atheist professor of philosophy pauses before his class and then asks one of his new students to stand. "You're a Christian, aren't you, son?"

"Yes sir," the student says.

"So you believe in God?"

"Absolutely."

"Is God good?"

"Sure! God's good."

"Is God all-powerful? Can God do anything?"

"Yes."

"Are you good or evil?"

"The Bible says I'm evil."

The professor grins knowingly. "Aha! The Bible!" He considers for a moment.

"Here's one for you. Let's say there's a sick person over here and you can cure him. You can do it. Would you help him? Would you try?"

"Yes sir, I would."

"So you're good...!"

"I wouldn't say that."

"But why not say that? You'd help a sick and maimed person if you could. Most of us would if we could. But God doesn't."

The student does not answer, so the professor continues. "He doesn't, does he? My brother was a Christian who died of cancer, even though he prayed to Jesus to heal him How is this Jesus good? Hmmm?

Can you answer that one?"

The student remains silent.

"No, you can't, can you?" the professor says. He takes a sip of water from a glass on his desk to give the student time to relax.

"Let's start again, young fella Is God good?"

"Er Ah.....yes," the student says.

"Is Satan good?"

The student doesn't hesitate on this one. "No."

"Then where does Satan come from?"

The student : "From...God..."

"That's right. God made Satan, didn't he? Tell me, son. Is there evil in this world?"

"Yes, sir."

"Evil's everywhere, isn't it? And God did make everything, correct?"

"Yes."

"So who created evil?" The professor continued, "If God created everything, then God created evil, since evil exists, and according to the principle that our works define who we are, then God is evil."

Without allowing the student to answer, the professor continues: "Is there sickness? Immorality?

Hatred? Ugliness? All these terrible things, do they exist in this world?"

The student: "Yes."

"So who created them?"

The student does not answer again, so the professor repeats his question. "Who created them? There is still no answer. Suddenly the lecturer breaks away to pace in front of the classroom. The class is mesmerized.

"Tell me," he continues onto another student. "Do you believe in Jesus Christ, son?"

The student's voice is confident: "Yes, professor, I do."

The old man stops pacing. "Science says you have five senses you use to identify and observe the world around you. Have you ever seen Jesus?"

"No sir. I've never seen Him"

"Then tell us if you've ever heard your Jesus?"

"No, sir, I have not."

"Have you ever actually felt your Jesus, tasted your Jesus or smelt your Jesus? Have you ever had any sensory perception of Jesus Christ, or God for that matter?"

"No, sir, I'm afraid I haven't."

"Yet you still believe in him?"

"Yes."

"According to the rules of empirical, testable, demonstrable protocol, science says your God doesn't exist. What do you say to that, son?"

"Nothing," the student replies. "I only have my faith."

"Yes, faith," the professor repeats. "And that is the problem science has with God. There is no evidence, only faith."

The student stands quietly for a moment, before asking a question of his own. "Professor, is there such thing as heat?"

"Yes," the professor replies. "There's heat."

"And is there such a thing as cold?"

"Yes, son, there's cold too."

"No sir, there isn't."

The professor turns to face the student, obviously interested. The room suddenly becomes very quiet.

The student begins to explain.

"You can have lots of heat, even more heat, super-heat, mega-heat, unlimited heat, white heat, a little heat or no heat, but we don't have anything called 'cold'. We can hit up to 458 degrees below zero, which is no heat, but we can't go any further after that. There is no such thing as cold; otherwise we would be able to go colder than the lowest -458 degrees. Everybody or object is susceptible to study when it has or transmits energy, and heat is what makes a body or matter have or transmit energy. Absolute zero (-458 F) is the total absence of heat. You see, sir, cold is only a word we use to describe the absence of heat. We cannot measure cold. Heat we can measure in thermal units because heat is energy. Cold is not the opposite of heat, sir, just the absence of it."

Silence across the room. A pen drops somewhere in the classroom, sounding like a hammer.

"What about darkness, professor. Is there such a thing as darkness?"

"Yes," the professor replies without hesitation. "What is night if it isn't darkness?"

"You're wrong again, sir. Darkness is not something; it is the absence of something. You can have low light, normal light, bright light, flashing light, but if you have no light constantly you have nothing and it's called darkness, isn't it? That's the meaning we use to define the word. In reality, darkness isn't. If it were, you would be able to make darkness darker, wouldn't you?"

The professor begins to smile at the student in front of him. This will be a good semester.

"So what point are you making, young man?"

"Yes, professor. My point is, your philosophical premise is flawed to start with, and so your conclusion must also be flawed."

The professor's face cannot hide his surprise this time. "Flawed? Can you explain how?"

"You are working on the premise of duality," the student explains. "You argue that there is life and then there's death; a good God and a bad God. You are viewing the concept of God as something finite, something we can measure. Sir, science can't even explain a thought. It uses electricity and magnetism, but has never seen, much less fully understood either one. To view death as the opposite of life is to be ignorant of the fact that death cannot exist as a substantive thing. Death is not the opposite of life, just the absence of it."

"Now tell me, professor. Do you teach your students that they evolved from a monkey?"

"If you are referring to the natural evolutionary process, young man, yes, of course I do"

"Have you ever observed evolution with your own eyes, sir?"

The professor begins to shake his head, still smiling, as he realizes where the argument is going.

A very good semester, indeed.

"Since no one has ever observed the process of evolution at work and cannot even prove that this process is an on-going endeavor, are you not teaching your opinion, sir? Are you now not a scientist, but a preacher?"

The class is in uproar. The student remains silent until the commotion has subsided.

"To continue the point you were making earlier to the other student, let me give you an example of what I mean."

The student looks around the room. "Is there anyone in the class who has ever seen the professor's brain?" The class breaks out into laughter.

"Is there anyone here who has ever heard the professor's brain, felt the professor's brain, touched or smelled the professor's brain? No one appears to have done so. So, according to the established rules of empirical, stable, demonstrable protocol, science says that you have no brain, with all due respect, sir. So if science says you have no brain, how can we trust your lectures, sir?"

Now the room is silent. The professor just stares at the student, his face unreadable.

Finally, after what seems an eternity, the old man answers. "I guess you'll have to take them on faith."

"Now, you accept that there is faith, and, in fact, faith exists with life," the student continues.

"Now, sir, is there such a thing as evil?"

Now uncertain, the professor responds, "Of course, there is. We see it everyday. It is in the daily example of man's inhumanity to man. It is in the multitude of crime and violence everywhere in the world. These manifestations are nothing else but evil."

To this the student replied, "Evil does not exist sir, or at least it does not exist unto itself. Evil is simply the absence of God. It is just like darkness and cold, a word that man has created to describe the absence of God.

God did not create evil. Evil is the result of what happens when man does not have God's love present in his heart. It's like the cold that comes when there is no heat or the darkness that comes when there is no light."

The professor sat down.

Life's Seasons

Life's Seasons

Life's Seasons

The spring has come, the leaves are new
The showers fall, as does the dew
The flowers bloom with colors bright
The earth is such a lovely sight

When summer comes the leaves grow round
They give their shade upon the ground
The bugs eat holes, the wind makes tears
But through it all the leaves are there

As autumn comes the leaves go dry
They curl before a darkened sky
The flowers that were blooming bright
Have gone away without a fight

Then winter comes to end the scene
The blowing wind makes all things lean
The rain falls cold upon the town
Now's when the leaves come falling down

by Roger Goldsberry

This is a beautiful poem that a friend over at Down To The Roots forum shared and said it was all right to share on my blog. Her husband wrote this and I thought you might enjoy this as well as I did. The message is clear, life does change for us all like the seasons, sometimes for the better and other times not like we want them to.

You ever go through times when something major happens in your life, and because of different situations you start digging deep into what is this life all about anyway. Most the times when these feelings overcome us we tend to reach in areas of inner self that we never thought we had. A learning, an awareness, an enlightenment happens.

It could be a faith or spiritual awareness. Or just an eye opener. But we tend to group words together that we thought we never could. Words that make sense. Words that have deep meaning. Wisdom happens, I think this is what happens to great writers of poetry , they are in touch with something higher then themselves. And the thing is it can happen to anyone. Words are in each of us waiting to be expressed and shared. I think this is why blogs are so popular, Its a sharing and receiving.

I hope all of you blog or keep your writings in journals to be discovered . Everyone has a story, a poem in them. A treasure just waiting to give away to just the right person. And when you receive such a gift you receive a power of knowing that many are going through what you go through , hard times , happy times, just plaid ol days that we all go through.

Its give one a feeling that we are all in the same boat going down stream with paddle in hands and waiting to see what the next bend in the river will bring. A river that we take a ride on for the very first time not knowing what's ahead. I think I like it that way. I like to be alone, but it sure is nice to know theres love ones ,family , friends , people you may never meet that go along on the river ride with you through spirit.

Now Autumn is upon many of us and the beautiful season is making its showing. Lets float down that calm river and let the leaves fall on us and think of the many people that have touch our hearts and the love that has always been there and will always be.

A special prayer to my friends husband who wrote the poem, his brother has cancer. This beautiful poem was wrote with love for a brother.

Blessing

Looking Up

Posted in Words of Inspiration and Quiet Times

BUZZARD If you put a buzzard in a pen that is 6 feet by 8 feet and is entirely open at the top, the bird, in spite of its ability to fly, will be an absolute prisoner. The reason is that a buzzard always begins a flight from the ground with a run of 10 to 12 feet. Without space to run, as is its habit, it will not even attempt to fly, but will remain a prisoner for life in a small jail with no top.

BAT The ordinary bat that flies around at night, a remarkably nimble creature in the air, cannot take off from a level place. If it is placed on the floor or flat ground, all it can do is shuffle about helplessly and, no doubt, painfully, until it reaches some slight elevation from which it can throw itself into the air. Then, at once, it takes off like a flash.

BUMBLEBEE A bumblebee, if dropped into an open tumbler, will be there until it dies, unless it is taken out. It neve! r sees the means of escape at the top, but persists in trying to find some way out through the sides near the bottom. It will seek a way where none exists, until it completely destroys itself.

PEOPLE In many ways, we are like the buzzard, the bat, and the bumblebee. We struggle about with all our problems and frustrations, never realizing that all we have to do is look up. Sorrow looks back, Worry looks around, But Faith looks up. Live Simply Love Generously Care Deeply Speak Kindly and Trust in those who care about you.

A dear friend sent this and I wanted to share with you.   Jon who is founder of   OHG

He  has so much knowlege and wisdom.  His group is about organic gardening and his mission ," to feed your family healthy".  Its a group to join with so many great members that are ready to help,  everyone is welcome.

A World Of Toss Salad

The picture is a nice bowl of salad I made today fresh from our garden, except for the tomato's, that's from the Farmers Market last Saturday, grown in a greenhouse by the Amish. They were pretty good for greenhouse, still way better then store bought from who knows where. I added some daylilies, you know they are pretty tasty too, got a sweet taste. Can't wait for our own homegrown tomatoes and cucumbers.

I would like to make some homemade cheese to put in a salad, and how about blacken chicken in the salad too, : ). Lots of ways to dress a salad up. Chop some hard boiled farm fresh eggs on top is good.

Now that's just what salad is a little bit of everything to make a meal that I and many just have for lunch or supper, don't miss the meat and taters at all. And as the summer draws near, salads fit the bill.

Its been warm and high winds today and right now at almost 11:00 PM. Suppose to have storms tomorrow, hope we get some rain.

Put some plants out and planted seeds. Fillin up the garden good. Looked in the dual bin compost tumbler and seen that black gold. Top dressed some plants and made compost tea for several plants. Tea time was yesterday and I can see results from it today.

I notice some of the bean leafs look like they got wind burnt, I will have to check symptoms of a bean plant later.

It was mostly in the garden today and walked in the woods to reflect on the last few days.

Two things I like to share, first I'm so very proud of my youngest DD, she had been working a second job, on Saturdays. She quit for a good reason, they wanted her to campaign for a political party that she does not support. Now I'm not saying what party , that's not the point here, but more that it was against what she believes and she took a stand and stepped down from a job. A big high five A. Love you.

Another was in my working area , a tragic murder of a young 18 yr old girl , Kelsey Smith who has been missing sense Saturday, they found her body today about 15 miles away from where she was taken. A Target store in Overland Park Ks. You might have heard from the national news. They are still looking for the less then low life that committed this horrific crime.

Our prayers go out to the family and friends. This has touch so many, help came from all over to help find Kelsey. This hits home to all of us, it could have been our own, so they made Kelsey their own and they showed the love and caring, this will not be forgotten. And many prayers went out and still going out. Sometimes our prayers aren't always answered the way we like them to be, sometimes they are, but we should never give up hope and this family stayed with hope and was and is strong.

I didn't feel much like blogging after the day of events, so why the salad picture and my page title?

Well you look at all that's in a salad , you got lots of different lettuces ,tomatoes and just about anything you would like. It all tosses together and works pretty nicely together, right. Just like people, we're made up of many different types, we're tossed in the world (bowl) I sometimes say even the same canoe. We all work out pretty good in general . But then you get something that is not part of the salad that you picked from the garden , the weed, a bad weed, maybe a weed that can poison you. We search and search in our just picked salad for the bad weeds to toss out.

That's what we got to do with the bad weeds in life, we first have to watch out for them and then toss them out. We have to safe guard our love ones from the weeds. Where to toss them??? Will my weeds go in the compost bin and they come out for the better to be used. Then theres some weeds that never break down for a very long time. They are useless in the garden. They harm the garden.

So I'm saying, this now murder case is unfolding to almost a found suspect, a person that has many convictions on him, why is he out? Why is this bad weed out in our garden?

I'm sadden and sicken from the last few days from this crime. But uplifted by the overwhelming love that took place. Thats something nobody can take away.

We have to take care because the bad weeds are walking amongst us, they always have and they always will. We have to safeguard our children. I wish kids would hang out in two or more when they go places. Maybe eyes will open and changes for safety can be made. Maybe bad weeds can stay in a place just for them and not get out from their borders, stonger inforced laws. I only can hope.

Well it's time to check out blogs and different websites
All take good care, thanks for stopping by. Be safe

Blessings
linda

Adopt A Pet
Adopt A Pet magnify

That's what my sister and I was going to do today after we did our work . We went to the animal shelter and found the perfect little dog for our aunt, the picture is my sisters dog, and the dog was kinda like Pepper here, except it was an apricot color, real cute. The place was real clean and the dogs & cats looked very healthy.

We were not able to get doggy but I was even more impressed with the place b/c we couldn't adopt. Let me explain, you just can't walk in a shelter (not this one ) and adopt a dog, nope. You have to have a run down on who is getting the dog. Ok my sister said we were looking for a dog for our aunt, well and good but Auntie needed to be there too. Its to see if it would be a good match. I guess they may have returns . Also if you have other dogs and cats you have to bring them in there to meet the new pet along w/ all the family members that will be w/ the new pet. It did seem a bit much but they do love their animals. The best part they keep their animals tell someones adopts them, no euthanizing. We left disappointed but knew it was for the best b/c our aunt is older and didn't want to come the distance to look at the dog and that little dog won't be there long , he was so cute. He'll get a good home.

Now It must have been one of those days that brings you from one place to another, so we went to a pet store, oh boy they had everything. And puppies, oh, oh, oh. $800.00 puppies. Now they didn't care who was going to get the puppies there , if we had the extra $800 we could have walked out w/ a puppy for our aunt, hummmmm.

Pet store----$800---- anyone can walk out with puppy

Pet Adoption----$95.00------ your drivers license, family that will be w/ the pet, your blood & first born, just kidding on the last two!!!!! and maybe you get to walk out with a dog????

After looking at all the pets, the coolest was a very small tortoise, it was expensive, but this is the wild part, it lives 150 years and gets real big enough to ride on it. I remember at the zoo when I was a kid riding on these big guys. 150 year old pet, that would take some rearranging and when one could no longer keep such a pet. Just think passing on a tortoise to your children's, children's children!!!!! WOW .

I also asked about Sugar Gliders, little pocket pets they call them. They really look like a tiny flying squirrel. They are marsupials and are nocturnal. They are trying to breed these guys and will offer them at their store if all goes well. I'm still doing research on them and want to make real sure if I really want as a pet. I am a night owl so it could work out good.

After our adventure in the pet store we started to head home and thought of stopping off at a place we never ate at before. A steak and rib place, it was so nice with rich wood decor and the smell of smoked ribs, hummmmm. We didn't order a big dinner , no we just wanted some soup, got the house soup, it was more a stew tho, burnt rib tips, sounds awful but oh it was good. now we were full and we never get dessert but when the waiter said Creme Brulee, our eyes got big, you see we have never had that before, I know its the 21st century and we haven't tried creme brulee. Oh my goodness, we ordered one and split it, was it delish, I want to get a torch and make this stuff.

We're back home and havin coffee and watching a movie ,free HBO,lol War of the Worlds. Heading back home after the movie and turn in early.

We had heavy dark clouds overhead today, and cold. One of those make me sleepy days, so after work and seeing all the different critters and eating Creme Brulee I'm pooped.

All have a good evening , drop by again , tc and Blessings to ya linda

Earth Day

Earth Day magnify
I received a message today from one of my Yahoo 360 friends , (asunnyfield) stating "Whatca doin' special for Earth Day?" That got me thinkin, I really wasn't planning anything today, nothing different then the usual.

I thought and thought and the more I did that I wanted to do something that would impact the earth to the good in my little space of the world. Build a wind mill, put up some solar panels, cool, but no can do right now, those things cost a bit. But there are things I can do in a small way, and that's what I think the message is about on Earth Day, we all can do something that will make the world a little cleaner everyday and without cost and really to much effort. Just picking up after ourselves and recycling, walking ,planting gardens , theres so much one can do.

My friend asunnyfield is walking today and picking up trash, awesome. You'll find her blog on the right side of MY PAGE along with others that share interesting and informing sites as well as their adventures during the day.

Picking up trash today will be a task for sure, we are under a tornado watch north of us and the wind is dangerous, especially in the woods with tree limbs.

Not going anywhere today I would say will help out a wee bit. What if everyone stayed home for just one day, now that would be a big impact. My Dh is helping out, he's been napping pretty much of the day, says he's saving energy, lol.

We keep the electric down to a medium. I would like to put back up the clothes line that I do miss. Just need to find a different spot sense we are doing some landscaping and putting in an outdoor kitchen. That will save to, cooking outside with wood that is down fall from the winds. Never really have to bring down the live trees, the broken limbs are enough.

Many things like an organic garden that feed many of us and less travel to the stores. Recycle our trash is down to a small medium with composting and recycling

The woods are left alone for animal habitat. And this in turn helps the earth. With a lot of our neighbors cutting all their trees down for pasture, cuts into air quality , windbreaks, shelter from the hot summers, animal habitats, every action causes an effect.

Someday I would like us to be on solar, we're passive solar now in our earthcontact, most the time in winter the sun warms the house, with nothing more then the sun shinning in. Nice to turn off the furnish, and save gas. We burn wood and that's at night, even then that is all we need.

On my organic homesteading group OHG, tenzi (see both of these sites on my blogroll) has challenge us to change our incandescent lightbulbs for one compact fluorescent to make a difference. My DH has been doing this for about a year now, the first time and I didn't know he did was in the hallway. Walking down the hall I had thought, boy my eyes are getting bad, now thank heavens it was the bulb. It has made a difference, why would we need a bright light to just walk down a hall. I'm not sold on the one he exchange where I knit by tho : (. I'll slip in a brighter one sometime when hes not looking, lol.

There's so much we can do to make an impact on our earth that is a privilege to live on. We are and should be stewards of the earth. Its a gift to be taken care of. I think what if centuries ago they were able to do the things we are doing to the earth today and we would have to live in it, how much worst it would be if it started back then. Well think about what the next generations to come will be living in if we don't start getting our mess cleaned up.

We can and will make a difference, lets make a good one!!!!!
Thanks for dropping by. Blessings to you

Your Age By Eating Out    May 2007

Your Age By Eating Out magnify

This is funny, I tried it and it works. Weird!
It works - try it!!!

YOUR AGE BY EATING OUT
Don't tell me your age; you probably would tell a falsehood anyway-but
your
waiter may know!

YOUR AGE BY DINER & RESTAURANT MATH
This is pretty neat.

DON'T CHEAT BY SCROLLING DOWN FIRST!
It takes less than a minute. Work this out as you read ....
Be sure you don't read the bottom until you've worked it out!
This is not one of those waste of time things, it's fun.

1. First of all, pick the number of times a week that you would like to go
out to eat.
(more than once but less than 10)

2. Multiply this number by 2 (just to be bold)

3. Add 5

4. Multiply it by 50

5. If you have already had your birthday this year add 1757...
If you haven't, add 1756.

6. Now subtract the four digit year that you were born.

You should have a three digit number

The first digit of this was your original number. (I.e., How many times
you
want to go out to restaurants in a week.)

The next two numbers are

YOUR AGE ! ------ (Oh YES, it is!!!)

THIS IS THE ONLY YEAR (2007) IT WILL EVER WORK, SO SPREAD IT AROUND WHILE
IT
LASTS

Did It work? Lets do a poll

Did The Math Work?
Yes, How did it do that?
5
No, and I did it twice
0
Did this before
0
Don't like to do these math things
0
I scrolled down first anyway :P
0
If I see another one of these, it only takes a minute, I'll scream
1
Don't go out and eat," home cookin is the life for me"

Screen Doors Are Back

Screen Doors Are Back magnify

Screen doors and windows are coming back.
Well for some, I have always use them. Even in the winter on nice days, and especially when I burn something in the kitchen, air the place out.

I was in town/city yesterday to meet up with clients , they have the big , big ,big homes. some are using screen doors on the FRONT DOOR, oh my gosh, there goes the neighborhood, lol. I was told this when I put up a clothes line , in the country mind you. I just love that line!!!!!!!

This is becoming the trend, with higher electric bills. People are seeing that a little fresh air is good and doesn't cost!!!!.
Some are fortunate enough to have those attic fans, oh those are great, moves the air and feels real comfortable.

We go as long as can without air conditioning, its kinda hard married to an A/C guy, lol. But I'll keep it off and open the windows at night , to have a nice breeze come in and hear the night sounds.

My work shop stays nice all summer, it has exposed concrete floorings and walls, which keeps cool in summer and warm in the winter. I would think it would not but it works out great. I use a fan and sometimes the ceiling fan that circulates the air. In the cold times a small heater that heats 720 sq ft, vaulted ceiling, cost is $10. a month in the winter, and not all the time too.

Having the earth contact helps too. but having an upstairs does not, alto the upstairs is wonderfully warm in the winter(and now my new green house/art studio), but also is the warmest room in the summer to. That's when I open up the doors and windows and let the breeze go through the whole house. Now on those hot no breeze summer days, that's when the air comes on, once it cools down, we turn it off and it stays pretty nice, then just use fans to move the air.

A true earth home would be more efficient, w/ earth on top of the house, didn't go that route, but I would say that would be the most kind of saver in utilities.

Back to the screen doors, they have these retractable screens now, way cool, great for French type and patio doors. I lived in many a house with torn screens, mostly cause by the excited dog wanting to get in or out. And pushing your face in the screen to see what's outside, done that. Adds to the floppy screen look!!!!!

I have right now a screen patio door over some plants that are hardening off, keeps that direct sun off them, alto its been raining for a couple of days now.

Screens are a smart way to help with environment, using less energy and sure helps in the pocket book too. And I always like that old saying "Don't let the screen door hit you on your backside on the way out". "Backside" was exchange for a word that is use more often, lol.

It's time for a poll on screen doors, so after my homestead up date scroll on down and check it out.

Homestead Update

Chicks are doing great in the Hen Den, one of the Ol Gals, sits by their cage and looks in on them, I think she thinks there hers.

Beans are coming up, oh I hope we don't get a cold snap, I'm really taking a chance on these.

Its raining so won't be working in the garden, but in the work shop instead , which is a good thing, orders to go out and trip back to Weston on Friday

Sis and I went in yesterday and ate at the new Bass Pro Shop, it was ok. I did buy my favorite candy, horehound, sis hates it, so I got her some wild cherry, the old fashion kind.

Have a great one, Blessings

Mothers Day
Mothers Day magnify
Had a rough weekend, lost a dear friend Saturday. Debby from my organic homestead gardening group OHG. She will be missed by many. She always made me laugh and we would cut up once in awhile. We'd e-m about our homestead going on's. Oh how she loved to garden and was loaded with information and help for others on our group. I never met Debby in person, but felt I knew her for a life time. She and her family lives in Kentucky, I always hoped to go see her one day. Just was not meant to be.
I'll miss my friend.

Debby's last e-m we were saying how much we wanted to have a real nice digital camera, I have a cheapo one and she was even interested in getting her one. But our real wants was having a good camera.

Almost had her getting her own blog. She would come over and read mine and wonder how I had time to do a blog, late nights sometimes!!! She would have had so much fun telling of her days.

Well Debby knew how much I wanted to get a camera and lo and behold today for Mothers Day my kids pitched in together and got me a camera!!!! I was so surprised, It was a big ticket item for the kids. Mothers Day is usually rose bushes to plant which I love and got them too!!!!. But deep down I feel it was Debby's spirit that intervened with the help of getting that camera for me. Its something special not only from the kids but a memory of Debby from our last conversation and every picture will be in memory of her.

My sister gave me little white roses and I planted them in my garden in memory of Debby, they were givin in love by my sister and planted in love of friendship that will be a life time growing.

Debby sent me some tomato seeds (Stupice) a new tomato for me, and these are growing in my garden, the seeds will be saved and passed on to others, there will be a little sign in the garden next to the plants Debby's Stupice Tomatoes .

I have garlic from OHG founder , growing and there will be a sign next to his garlic. I have my Dad's horseradish plants, and my grandmothers flowers and different things that were passed on. These all will have a sign to share who and where they came from.

Saturday was our Granddaughters first T-Ball game, oh was that something to see, those little guys are so cute, tryin to hit the ball and running, some of them wanted to run to third base instead of first, others didn't know what they were suppose to do after they hit the ball off the stick. Never ever in my wildest dreams I would think I would be at a T-ball game with 4 grandkiddies, you just never know.

Mothers Day was spent out at my sisters and BIL. We had a great dinner, wild turkey and pheasant and all the fixins that a Thanksgiving would be like. Our Mom and our Aunt was there along with the kids and the grandkids. Our son was the only one missing. But he sent an e-m all the way from another country.

It was a hot ol day so the kids played in the water. My sister made a miniature golf course in her back pasture, I know , you don't see that everyday, but as I was holding our new little grandson, I watched while the kids and grownups played golf. Sis made her mini golf course with an African theme, theres a hut that she makes flavored icies, very refreshing.

I took many pictures with my new camera , but got to read really a lot of stuff to see what this can do, its got a thing to make movies and voice sounds to.

Today was a beautiful day, reflecting on a dear friend and blessings of my beautiful family. Having my Mom at 80 yrs and her sister who's less then a couple of years younger.

When DH and I got home it was in the garden and planted my rose bushes, the little white ones, a climbing yellow which will grow over an arbor in the entrance to the garden, and a pinkish purple that is in the far end of the garden.

Got 60 tomato plants in and about 140 more to go. Made a salad from the different lettuces and radishes and onions, and someday will be eating tomatoes.

All have a good week coming, if you knew Debby from OHG , hugs to you cuz I know you are missing her too. She has a strong family and they will carry on.

Drop by again and I'll be able to have some nice pictures. Thanks Kids and Debby I'll never forget , you'll be in my heart forever.

Blessings

Long Way Home
Long Way Home magnify
We went out to sisters and B-in-laws homestead today. Brought our fresh dressed out chickens for grilling. The dinner was great and the meat so good and tender. Mom said you couldn't get it any fresher, well yes you could of, yesterday when we butchered, but thats a little to fresh. I usually don't like to eat the meat for sometime. Theres this smell of wet chicken feathers and all the smells that come with it that makes me not hungry for chicken or anything for that matter.

I said a Thanksgiving before the butcher of the critters , that I'm grateful it will feed our family. Even our garden has life and it gives to us to, so I'm very grateful for the bounty and Blessed that we can have a garden.

Storms came again today and lots of rain, one of the clouds looked like a funnel forming, see picture here
Yahoo! Photos - Storms Clouds
but it soon went up , it was so calm and the sky had that greenish look to it and a weird feeling. But we just got rain, good deal.

We didn't play golf but walked around and took pictures, I helped sis figure out her new camera just like mine, lol.

There was a mom turkey and her babies coming out of the field once in awhile but I never did see them. My BIL telling me quick get a camera, time I got there they were gone.

She has family and friends come out and in the evenings it is all lit up and so pretty. She went with an African theme, heres pictures of her golf course, Its a fun place.
Yahoo! Photos - Sisters Mini Golf Course

DH and I like to go the long way home, well take that back I really do. I'm in no hurry to get on the hwy. The country roads are much more scenic. Theres a lot of old barns still standing, but they won't be much longer, I took a pic of this one here on my blog, its a pretty location.

Havin a laid back late afternoon , evening, Put all the animals to bed, checked the garden after the rains. Made those beans and corn come up from just this morning. Peppers and tomatoes are going to town too!!!!

I'm thinking of all the things I can bring to the farmers market , and things to make like gift baskets, Idea from Jon in OHG
organichomesteadinggardening : AAA Organic Homesteading & Gardening .

I plan on going on Sat. but can't set up until T-Ball games are over, 4 more games I think. Grandkids take precedent over farmers market. I could go on Wed. but I need to work in real business that makes the money so I can do things like farmers market. But I plan to stop by early Sat morning, pay my fee and get acquainted with the other venders and see how one does this, so much to learn. I will probably wing most of it.

Staying tomorrow and working, could get more rains tomorrow.

Going to be another busy week. Do some reading tonight and hit the sack early maybe!!!

All take good care

Blessings

I Won A Calf Contest
I Won A Calf Contest magnify
I couldn't believe it when tenzi editor of Down to the Roots magazine
Down to the Roots Organic Homesteading Magazine get 'back to your roots', organic living, green lifestyles, raising livestock, gardening and so much more.
put on a contest in her forum guessing the closest date to her cows delivery. And I had the closest date, : ). I even guessed it to be a girl. WTG Daisy!!!!!!!

The mama cow is Daisy and her calf Blossom, Daisy Blossom, isn't that cute names. The above picture is Daisy looking at probably tenzi taking the picture and the little calf getting some rest. Theres more pictures on tenzi blog of the two.
Yahoo! 360° - tenzicut's Homesteading Blog Just scroll down a few days until you see the cows. Theres quite a story in her blogs about this cow named Daisy

Now the contest is not over, theres 2 more cows that we have guessed the date of delivery. The prize that I will receive is a DTTR T-shirt. I plan on wearing my new t-shirt at my Farmers Market stand. I'm promoting homestading with fresh organic veggies and herbs. And wearing DTTR T-shirt I will look professional and buyers and lookers will know I mean the real McCoy when I speak of homesteading. I also plan on a few of tenzi's magazines on my stand as well.

I'm so excited about tenzi's magazine. If your familiar with Mother Earth News , DTTR magazine, only on its second year had top billing over Mother Earth News a couple of weeks ago. Is that not something. tenzi you should be proud of what you have done in such a short time. And not only that her mag goes to over 8 countries.

You might check tenzi's website, as she still may offer a free sample of her magazine. Its one of those magazines that really get down to the roots of the subject. I highly recommend it.

Homestead update:

Been working in the shop, not to much in the garden, its just keeps growing. Soon it will be putting up garden harvest, When things start coming on theres no let up.

Suppose to get rains tomorrow , going to turn in early. So night all

Blessings to you

linda
