Heirloom Seed Swap?? Anyone interested?

12:39, Thursday, May 29, 2008 .. 3 comments .. Link

All this talk of the loss of heirloom seeds, do you know of a good source?

Would anyone be interested in organizing or participating in a seed swap/purchase?  Also a tutorial on how to process the seeds?

I officially tried heirloom seeds for the first time this year and had moderate success.  The green peppers and tomatoes did NOT turn out - but the rest seem to be doing well so far (other than my carrots - 2nd year in a row they did not come up.  Our local green house actually saves their own seeds from year to year on many of their products and plants and sells them.  He was telling me about a special process his wife has to extract and preserve her special tomato seeds.

Thanks.

Also there is some kind of Southern Exposure place if you are in the southern areas.

I tried starting seeds this year, and had very little "luck" with them. However, where I threw out some rotten tomatoes last year I had many volunteer plants come up. So I think in the future I might by some seeds and plant them, let them winter and come up au natural. It seems to work with at least as much sucess as I've had starting them inside, if not better!

Oh, and I stopped by to let you know that I blogged my thoughts about your questions today. :)

Blessings,
Ashley

I always order from Baker Creek seed company. They have a huge selection of heirloom seeds from all over the world. Not sure their website address.
We have the best time reading about the seeds and a very hard time choosing!!
