I wasn't prepared!

I had left a message for our local superintentant about the need for an official assessment of my daughter's K year of homeschooling.  He returned my call personally this morning and then after answering my question asked me if he could ask me a question.  He asked why I homeschool.  I shouldn't have been surprised, but I was caught off guard and wish I'd been more officially prepared.

I said:

A. I was homeschooled when I was younger and have always wanted to homeschool.

B. For religious reasons

C. So that she can work at her own pace

D. So I can teach science from a strong creation standpoint

E.  I enjoy having them at home

I did not mention

F. Negative Social pressures

G. Liberal political social agenda's

H. Alarming trend of the decline in quality of our national education system....

I tried to be positive and not focus on the negative.  Anyway - I better go get something done.  I have gotten 3 loads of laundry done, cleaned a bathroom, loaded up the dishwasher, and a bath to our 2 yr old who got in a mess during a quick phone call for my husband involving business.  I spent time typing up a letter of completion to send to the super. while it's still fresh on my mind. Now I need to make our lunch, finish some daily chores, and get ready for our afternoon of errands and visit to my FIL in the hospital.

I was even awaked at 5:30 by my son - and it's almost 10 - you'd think I'd have more done that that!

blessings!

I am curious:

What is the 'home schooling' law in your state? In mine, all we have to do is educate for 180 days.......that's it.

Thanks

Hello Wendy,

I'm the Miami County homeschool coordinator and a 15 year homeschool veteran. I don't know what your super told you - unfortunately, they are notorious for lying around here - but unless your daughter was 6 years old BEFORE Sept. 30th, 2007, then you DO NOT need to have her assessed for the 2007-08 Kindergarten school year.

Ohio Law is OHIO law...it is for the whole state and NOT subject to individual district "interpretation." ;-) If you have any questions about it, you are more than welcome to contact me either by my blog or e-mail. Until then, you can may enjoy the TOS/HSB Ohio blog: http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/OHIO.

Blessings from Miami County, Kim Wolf<><
