How does your garden grow? A few questions for heirloom gardeners...

Are you pouring through your seed catalogs? Picking seeds out? I purchased a few from an Ebay couple and they are very economically priced for organic heirloom seeds. Hence I should only purchase them once, if I am careful, correct? I have a teeny little garden in a little urban plot, but hoping to maximize as much as possible. My husband even manured the garden last fall (can you see this in an allotment - we are clearly out of place....) :0) Anyway - we hope for it to do better this year, I really scrunched the plants in there. I am hoping to talk him into a possible raised garden, and I did pick up an old window that he might turn into a cold bed for next year - we'll see. I wonder if chickens are allowed.... probably not - but my kind sister-in-law has them, and we are often blessed with some of their eggs!!! So do you have any advice for an urban gardener on maximizing my space, while maintaining some semblance of niceness for the neighbors sake? :0) lol I really enjoy canning, I used to have a big garden at our old place before children - but it was the traditional row style that we tilled up between rows. But I let it go after the children started coming as I couldn't keep ahead of the weeds. So lately I've been purchasing off local Amish or other gardeners who sell and use that to can. But I'd like to start getting a little more off my own, and I did enjoy being able to pick fresh beans, lettuce, & tomatoes for our own supper from it last year at least! I've seen topics such as container gardening, raised bed, and lasagna gardening- any recommendations on good titles to get from the library? Also, this is my first year of officially venturing into "heirloom" seed plants - any recommendations for good plants? Thanks. ws Leave a Comment { Last Page } { Page 74 of 79 } { Next Page } |
